Pups on self feeder???

For those of you that use self feeders, at what age do you start a pup out on a self feeder?

Posted by jackback on 09-11-2007 10:42 PM:

I know someone knows... these pups are almost 9 weeks old. I wanted to go ahead and start them on a self feeder... is that to early?

Go ahead

and start them. I start them soon as they can eat dry food. Then remove it about 6 months old.

3 weeks. I don't put much out at that age because they won't eat hardly any. They don't get weaned for another week or two. But they do get to smell it and taste it and are good to go when they are weaned. I put only a small amount out at that time and replace it daily.

Well, I just went ahead and put on out. Didn't take them long to figure it out. I figure they'll be fine on it.

Just about every litter of pups I've raised have eaten out of auto feeders. Alot of times they will be eating out of the feeders before you know it. I think they are the best way to feed pups.

Actually I was thinking about giving her a raw egg today... Should I?

Posted by Lee Currens Jr. on 09-12-2007 02:41 AM:

yes sir but if she is like me scramble it give
her the left over tater skins after supper

If you feed a high quality pupp food you don't need anything more.

My pups usually stop eating wet food on their own once they start eating out of the auto feeder.

i started mine on it at 9 weeks, he was playing too much with the food bowl and getting puppy chow everywhere. He didnt have any problem using it from the start.

I am certainly feeding a high quality feed, please don't take this little discussion and try and second guess what I am feeding my pups!!

If I or blueticking: it wants to feed a pup a dag gum egg then that is our decision, it has nothing to do with what feed the pups get fed!

Thanks!

Same here.

As soon as they can eat out of it which is usually around 6 weeks old. When they see momma do it, they do it. Never take them off unless I am doing something different for a particular show or hunt.

no thank you, a bigger bowl would just mean more food for him to spill. Any bowl he couldnt pull around would be way too big for the purpose.

self feeders

got feed in front of my pup all the time.my work hours (shift 12 hrs.) makes it impossible to feed at regular times.her bowl is never empty.works great for me.you can buy bowls for litters stainless that are near impossible to upset .hope pic is good enough to see.don't look like it works but it does.never had it upset 2 litters of labs.

Watch that Hobo, I think he's a troublemaker.

Recommending "high quality feed"....Hmmmpfff. Who does he think he is?

All I ment was if your feeding a good puppy food then they don't need the supplements.... I posted my comment and didn;t even see yours about the eggs. I don't think giving them a raw egg is going to hurt anything.
