Just Wondering ????

Have you ever been to a ukc hunt have some local people hunting that hunt every hunt there and around but, can never get them to guide, They would rather drive a hundred miles than guide out of there own club. Ukc should put it in a ruling that local club members have to guide if needed or be scratched, after 3rd timed barred for a 3 months.
Seems like every club i go to any more we have this problem, like tonight 3 local members and one outsider and guess who gets to guide, drive 45 min to hunt, that is just wrong.

Well If its like anywhere else like it is here. You guide a cast to your spots. Then a week or so later you go back to hunt and what do you know. There sits one of the guys that you guided in there hunting your spot. Knocking your coons out. Thats one of the big reasons they will not guide around here.

I think the truth is that they don't think there are any coon in their spots.
That's " gotta be " why they can't tree any in there.
Funny thing is , they can't tree any coons anywhere else either.
I mean , it can't be their dogs , can it ? LOL

Same here, tired of people coming back to my spots and hunting them after i've guided them there. Some people dont have a place that they can take strangers too also. The land owner may be fine with me in there but they dont want me dragging 3-4 trucks in there late at night with people they dont even know. So dont think it is because people are protecting some Honey Hole or that they dont have the dog.

Same thing around here. Most local guys that are at the hunt will guide. But some of these reasons posted above keep alot of guys from even showing up to offer to guide. Nowadays w/ so many guys carry GPS units in the truck it has made even more of them paranoid. I've always offered to guide at my local club and 2-3 other clubs that are nearby, but someone took advantage of that courtesy by coming back to the area I guided and was given permission to hunt and they did. I'm over it now because I don't own the land but my days of guiding are probably over unless I'm entering a dog in the hunt. I might just go find some hellish country to hunt for the nitehunts just so guys don't want to come back. Some guys already do this so I bet they don't have problems with guys hunting in they're area.
We also had 1-2 new guys in the club w/ limited nitehunt experience that either 1) Were worried the landowner wouldn't want that many guys in the woods at night or 2) were uncomfortable guiding a nite hunt cast. Those guys are given a free pass for about a year, but if they want to come to the local club and enter the hunt they better be willing and able to guide.

Jim- If this was at this year's state hunt in Preston, please PM me with who it was. The RRVH club has said that this will not be tolerated. Using GPS to recover a lost dog or if the cast gets split up are the only reasons a GPS is needed. Playing with them during the hunt is frowned upon by the club.

I'm just getting into these Night Hunts and I seen and heard of people going back to spots to hunt after a Night Hunt. I don't care for it but I don't own the land it happens on and thats the only reason I woundnt want to be a guide. Now for a suggestion so clubs would get guides for hunts and so people wouldn't go back to hunt places you've made drops on for a hunt. Why can't the clubs talk to land owners in the area and have an agreement with them that only club members may hunt their land and must show proof of being a member in order to hunt it unless it is a comp. hunt. Most land owners would not mind if the club post their land because if all of this was done right, 1) It would help the land owner out with trespassers. The land owner would know who is on their land. 2) The land owners would have coon populations in check on their property. 3) The land owners would be helping out non pof. club, 4) It would also help with the guiding at hunts.) This is just something I thought about after my last Night Hunt and something for the clubs out there to think about so there wouldn't be problems like this.

Coon hunting is COON HUNTING, the competition aspect is COMPETITION. Most guys that are into competition are competitive from the "GIT GO". This means competing for hunting ground as well. Went out last nite, called two land owners and got permission from both to hunt. Have hunted both spots for 30 years. First spot, there was a truck pulled into the road and dogs were running. Recognized the truck to be owned by a guy from a neighboring county that had accompanied me there on a hunt. Moved to another spot and treed a coon. Upon arriving back to truck and loading dogs This VERY SAME truck pulled in behind me and turned around and left.

Probably just coincedental, BUT this was a guy that I had guided last spring.
My guiding days are over.

There are clubs that I won't support. They don't have good hunting or good guides. They expect a guy that drove 75 miles to support their club to also guide a cast. When it happens, I don't go back. They never get my entry fee again. That, to me, is the best way to handle a bad coon club.

i'VE BEEN RUNNING HUNTS ALONG TIME, I KNOW PEOPLE GO BACK TO PLACES, BUT KEEP GAMEWARDENS # ON SPEED DIAL. THAT WILL HELP THAT PROBLEM, I KNOW SOME FARMERS DON'T LIKE A BUNCH OF PEOPLE. BUT JUST ABOUT EVRYONE HAS DIFFFRENT SPOTS THEY CAN GO TO.

IF WE DON'T START SUPPORTING ARE CLUBS ON THIS GUIDING YOU CAN SHUT THEM DOWN. I'M TIRED OF DRIVING 100,MILES TO HUNT AND HAVE TO GUIDE TOO.

Actually, you don't need UKC to handle this situation for you. Every UKC club has a right to refuse entry of any dog or handler as long as that refusal is not based on race, religion or creed. (page 22, UKC rulebook). You DO have a perfect right to discriminate agaist local entries who refuse to guide. All your club needs to do is adopt a policy that states something to the efffect that, say for instance, any entry within 30 miles must guide their cast if ask or forfeit their entry. Your club has every right to make and enforce such a rule. Whether or not you want to take such a step is up to your club. But the bottom line is that you do not need to involve UKC in your problem, just handle it yourself.

Last time I guided I drew a couple of big boys, one pretty close to you, and they cried and cried about the hunting being to rough. We scored on 2 coon and one of them won. I thought I did a pretty good job guiding, but it kind of broke me from guiding.
