Trail Cameras
Tis the season with new cameras coming in and out with the old. What's everyone's opinion on the newer and older ones? I'm shopping around. Just bought a Moultrie M-60 I'm trying out, and I also hung up my Cuddeback Capture IR.
I had good luck with the older Moultrie cameras that were about the size of a bowling ball and weighed about just as much. I liked that they actually had an aiming laser. I'm disappointed none of them do now. I tried a cheaper Moultrie last year and took it back to buy the Cuddeback Capture that Cabela's was closing out. I wish I wouldn't of bought it. Battery life is horrible, no way of seeing what you have for battery life left while in the woods, and the IR pics are extremely blurry.
Can never have enough cameras, so I'm kinda shopping around reading reviews and what not. I'm leaning towards a Stealth Cam for the next purchase, but just wondering what everyone's opinions are....

cams
i use the Wildgame cams, cant beat them for the price, battery life on them is great and take thousands of pics till i charge them, they also make a cord you could buy that hooks up to 2-6volt batteries, would imagine theyd go all year
We use stealth cams take a good clear pic and good video in the day but cant beat the price of the wildgame innovations and they take video at night. Very easy to set up compared to the stealthcam.
I have a Wildgame Inovations that I really like. Paid around $150 for it.
Takes pics or video, runs a couple months on 8 AA batteries. Video only seems to work during the day, at night it's just black.
Works great for scouting turkeys as well.

Moultrie M-80 is a good little camera, runs on double A's, crystal clear pics during the day and real good video at night, does record sound in the videos also, best part is it will fit in coat pocket, and batteries last about 4 months or so, another good cam is the little acorn cams good videos and pics and good battery life, a little pricey though. Had good luck with bushnell trophy cams too, but only the 5mpx. The 8 mpx are junk.
I like my spy point camera from gander mtn $99

the only problem I have with mine is ME I hate leaving it and not checking it every week so im thinking about buying the one that sends the pics to my cell phone its $329 but look at the stress and gas it will save and to look at the pics within 45 seconds of it being taken you cant beat it

i had a stealth cam once and it wasnt worth a dog turd...always missed the animal or just caught the rear end of it...only thing i ever got to work was video....got a dog eating something in front of it....maybe it was just a bad one but i never bought another...used the cudde back ever sense...works great for me..

Cuddeback Capture IR takes good pictures, and is more accurate than most dogs, but 2 months and about 700 pictures and it was dead. My Moultrie that was hung up the same day, and has taken MORE pictures, has 75% left on the batteries, and it runs on AAs.

The Moultrie I'm using is the M-60. Might be taking it back. Giving it another week.

Between me and another guy we have 10 cams out. 3 bushnells trophys, 3 cuddie backs attackir, 2 moultries i55 and i35, 1 simmons, and 1 scout gaurd.
Heres my reviews. Bushnells daytime pics are great, night time pics are ok. Trigger time is awesome as well as battery life. 1 of them is extremely sensitive and any movement will trigger it grass and all. Have to have it on low sensitivity. I don't like how the battery go in some can be loose. Fairly simple set up.
Cuddie back. day and night pics are great. long flash range. night video is grainy but ok. very simple set up. I like how you can set them to take a pic and then it will automaticly take video. Don't like how they mount on the tree and don't have a cable lock.
Moultries. Pics are ok. not as good as the top 2. good flash range for night pics. video is not as good either. but these are cheaper models. Battery life is good one the one. I have had to replace the screen one of them as well. I like how the screen is on the outside of the 35 if think. you can see pic numbers and battery life without opening it up. I have had the 35 freeze up on me before as well.
Simmons day pics are great night are average doesn't have the flash range as the ones above. very simple set up. It did freeze up on my and had to take batteries out. Trigger speed is good.
SG day pics are great night pics are average at best. Simple set up. Trigger speed seems ok.
Theres my 2 cents. Sorry so long winded believe it or not I actually shortened it.

"ONE'S I'VE USED"
I have 9 i think. Stealth cams,Cuddejunk,Wildgame innovations. The cuddejunk hasn't worked worth a hoot since I got it. In fact its in the same box as the ancient Stealth cams. They,at $69 then for the film models are better than that peice. Like you said, devours batteries & as inconsistant as a 8 wk old plott pup runnin a bear! Would sell it for $50 bucks at the drop of a hat. Thought about mashin it & sendin it back to the company that blew me off after numerous attempts to see "IF" they would fix it "IF" that was the problem?
Personally my favorite is the Stealth Cams. Not sure which model cuz their all deployed at the present. "NOT" the expensive models. They take awsum pictures day or night. Easy even for me to setup. Never tried the video option. Batteries last forever even in the winter. Has the low bat option. Excellent flash range & detection.
Wildgame Innovations is a nice cam as well. One I have has the IR/black & white night pix. They are very clear photos day or night. Also reasonably priced model as well. Batteries might last longer than the Stealth Cams or at least comparable. Setup is a tad bit confusing but thats with me pushin the buttons.
None of the ones I have are the wallet drainin models. Don't know how they could be better?
I use a digital camera to check pix in the feild. Most already have one of them so save your money on them veiwin thinga-ma-jiggys. Could buy another trail cam with that money.
My personal experience with only these models. "IF" I was buyin it would be the Stealth cams. You will not be dissapointed or get a bunch of pictures of moving weeds.

Corey, that wasn't long winded at all! Nice to hear detailed reports from people you can trust.
I would love my Cuddeback if it had a way to tell how much battery life was left and if said batteries lasted. Last rut it didn't stay alive for 1 week in typical November weather.
I really wish trail cams would still use the laser aiming device like the old Moultrie did. Not the distorted one that you can only see at night, but an actual laser pointer that could be seen much farther than the camera would actually take pics.
Road trippin to Cabela's this weekend, might add a couple Stealth Cams to the arsenal. Never heard a bad thing about them. For the money, few friends are raving over the Wildgame Innovations too. Nice to see a camera around $50 pleasing people. Shouldn't have to pay Reconyx price to be satisfied, IMO....

my old moultrie has that laser and I love it. I also like how you can see battery life and pic numbers right on the front. The size of the camera sucks and the pics are ok.
The cuddle backs we have will tell ya battery life and there hasn't been any issues with them so far. They are the 2012 models. After the first card pull they are by far the best pics.
I personally have't heard much good about the wild game cameras but I have not tried one yet. Got a gift card to walmart and was thinking about burning it on one of those.
This is a good website that reviews cameras. Can really compare specs side by side.

Wouldn't it be nice to take all the cams best features a person likes and develop the perfect cam

Thanks for the site!!
My Cuddeback is the Capture IR, believe it was new in 2010? Every picture it takes has some sort of wildlife in it, that part I LOVE!!! No battery meter, no aiming device, and no video. After last bow season, I fell in love with video mode. Instead of blurry photos when they're moving, you can get a video of them moving and pause it and get a much better gauge on the deer's size.

MIGHT'VE FOUND A KEEPER
I just bought a Bushnell Trophy Cam HD. So far I'm in love. It is programable in about every aspect you could want to tweak a trail cam, from IR brightness to trigger sensitivity. It has taken 900 pics for me so far, and the battery meter is still 100%. In the 900 pics, only 1 I couldn't find any glimpse of brown in it.

I have used alot of moultrie cameras and they weren't anything to write home about they just shut down and quit workin after a few months. I got tired of spendin hundreds on trail cameras that didnt hold up. I use WILDVIEW cameras now they're pretty cheap so you can afford go put out more then one out and you dont feel as bad if they get stolen or broken. The only drawback is that they dont show date and time but i usually set them on feeders that get hit right after dark. If your lookin to put out alot of cameras they are the way to go.I even put the camera on a couple cinder blocks in the woods cause i couldnt find a small enough tree in the area. Coons knocked the camera over and sandwiched it between the two blocks and it still works fine.
I am shoping for my first one.

My 12 year old son got a Primos Truth 46 I think is the model. He set it up alone, set all timings , flashes , settings, etc . by himself and he gets good pics. I would say out of 1000 pics maybe 5 to 10 that you cant tell what everything in pic. is. Its been out for about 3 months and he just put new batteries however the ones he started with were some old D batteries from back in the day that we rounded up out of old flashlights at the house. LOL. Deer and coons feel very comfortable in front of this camera we have pics of deer bedded down in front of it for hours at the time also one pic of a bird on a deers back. REALLY.....
Trail cameras
I am taking care of a deer lease and have 12 Bushnell Bone Collector cameras out and I realy like them the battery life is unreal. Put them out in April and it is impossible to tell how many pictures they have taken. I don't know how they compare in price but I have been pleased with them. H L Meyer
