Dog shaking head

I havent been able to find any cause...he does not have mites, canker, wax build up, no ticks, fleas or long hair inside ear, and it does not affect his performance, but he is constantly shaking his head/ears...he eats fine, no holding his head to the side or weak chewing like a cracked tooth, I am puzzled...any ideas folks? My vet doesnt know either...

I got a

10 month old male.Does the same thing.I can't seem to find nothin' wrong.He's not as bad now as he was a couple of months ago.

Maybe its his way of moving its collar thats itching or something. maybe habit.

I had a gyp one time do the same thing. Finally discovered it was several cavities. A couple pulled teeth later everything was back to normal.

Dog feed.....corn or grain based allergies.

I had a dog do the same thing a few years ago. He eventually dies. he has a wheat seed in his ear and it set up infection and caused brain damage.

All of this was found after doing a autopsy at a local college.

Have you tried cleaning the ears? Sometimes when that dirt and grime get built up they'll do that. Just take a cotton ball and some rubbing alochol and wipe their ears out real good. With dogs with droopy ears you need to do that on a regular basis anyhow.

Try a different dogfeed, one without any kind of soy.

Has he been around any water. I have a lab that does this and I have to go to vet and get swimmers ear for dogs.

what kind of food are you feeding. you mite think im dum but some food dog are elergit to

Check and see if there is any reddness. Dogs with long ears are also prone to yeast infections in their ears. Over the years, I have one or two who seemed more prone to than others.

Im feeding him diamond natural, lamb and rice, so no soy...he has been around water all his life, but once a month I use peroxide and rubbing alcohol in his ears, so its not that...I have had him at 2 vets...I am going to try switching foods on him...

I SAY THERES YOUR PROBLEM. ALL MY HOUNDS WAS DOING THE SAME THING. I CHANGE FOOD FOR ABOUT A YEAR NOW AND NO MORE PROBLEMS

Have him checked completely for any infection. Friend of ours had a male doing the same thing and they diagnosed it as a brain tumor. After several weeks of dealing with the thought of losing his promising young male, they found out it was some type of infection. They are now treating him with heavy-duty antobiotics, the outlook is very good he will be fine.

Try the Purple Stuff. We had a dog that problems with her ears and we tried everything, switching feed, vet visits, ear cleanings, etc. We read about this stuff from previous posts on this board and boy does it work. She has not had any problems with her ears since we have been using it.

Ear Solution or "The Purple Stuff"
This antiseptic can be used on wounds and is safe on humans BUT IT STAINS!!!!!!!All Ingredients available at Most drug Stores-

16 ounce bottle Isopropyl Alcohol (or Witch Hazel)
4 Tablespoons Boric Acid Powder
16 drops Gentian Violet 1% solution
Mix all ingredients in the alcohol bottle, Shake very well.
SHAKE WELL before every use.
Fill ear with solution (if the ear is scratched the witch hazel is less stinging). Ours was FINE with alcohol even with scrapes.
Massage the ear well, at the throat area, where the ear meets the neck too ,for about 30 seconds. Wipe ear dry with tissue or cotton ball.
Fill ear with solution again. Don't massage. Wipe with tissue.
This is to be done 2X day for two weeks
then 1x a day for two more weeks.
Once a month after that for keeping ears clean.

i had the same problem this spring. my females ears were clean, but she did have a yeast infection. got some meds from the vet and all`s fine now.

If it is ear yeast mix alcohol and peroxide in a snot sucker and push the solution into their ear. Turn the head sideways and massage at the base. 2x a day for 10 days should clear up .

had the same problem with a dog i had, come to find out my 4yo put a small rock in his ear, and when he tried to dig it out it just got pushed way down in. the vet missed it first trip, second trip they gave him some meds relaxed himsome, $300 dollars later out comes the pebble with some help. still have the pebble, most expensive rock i've ever seen.
