Cur x Hound
I would like to get Good and Bad opinions about hunting these.
If you have owned some and squirrel hunt them. How are they??
I hunt them and love them. BUT I am one that like to hunt nice dogs regardless of breed. I own and hunt treeing curs and I will be making a cross onto Grntch Big Money X Chloe's Amazing Grace. Grace is 3/4 cur 1/2 hound, Money is Walker Hound.

HUNT A SQUIRREL DOG. TWO LOOKING DOWN AT 16 DEGREES. I HAVE ONE BOOKING LEFT FOR A SQUIRREL DOG PUP DUE IN MAY, ONE DEPOSIT LEFT FOR A MALE PUP. 300.00 FOR A PUP. TREEING CUR PUPS.5/8 CUR 3/8 HOUND NORTHWEST GA WILL BE UKC AND PKC S.S.
The Feist X Hound crosses that I have had suited me better than the Cur X Hound crosses for my style of hunting. That being said I have 2 young Plott X Cur crosses that I have high hopes for. Made the cross because I really like the parents. But, I've coonhunted mine instead of squirrel hunting them.

WANT THE FUR GET A CUR!!
How about 3/4 hound 1/4 cur cross. Anyone used these on squirrel?
I hunt a 3/4 Walker 1/4 cur named Biggun. He can hang with any squirrel dog in the country, and does week in and week out. The only problem I see with that much hound in him is he pulls the trigger early a lot of times and I have to walk to a lot of dens. But he gets treed, no matter what! Heck, in a club hunt Saturday, he had 750+ so they ain't all dens.
my bad she is 3/4 cur 1/4 hound. And she is directly off Amazing Swamp Rat. I have owned a few off of X Factor and wish to this day I would have never sold Amazing Tack Factor. I raised and trained Tack and he is one super nice dog day or night.

Do most of you still dock the tails on a treeing cur?

some of mine are born with natural bob tails. I do dock the rest, but some want tails on their dogs.

Another question on breeding curs and hounds. I know ideally the female should be the bigger dog but was wondering if anyone has used a hound on a female cur. Was there any complications from the breeding or whelping.
the line of treeing curs i hunt have been crossed directly to Rat Attack and to Xjr, with little or no complications. I am breeding my female to Tim Osborne Grnt Big Money soon as she comes in. This is going to make a fantastic cross. Every so often (8 yrs) I will cross out to a reproducing hound stud. Then it will be back to line breeding until I feel its time to get another shot of hound.

Hound cur crosses is all that I hunt. I mainly hunt at night. Some make squirrle dogs some don't. Depends on what you are looking for in a squirrle dog.my bandit dog is a stay put stand on the wood tree dog. When squirrle hunted on bad days he will tree on a lot of den trees. And squirrels will timber out on him. When squirrels are moving good you can kill a toe sack full in a little while. Now at night you can wipe out the seed. Some make good dogs most don't. Just like all the other cur breeds.

I hunt hound x cur crosses and I like what I've seen so far. I hunt them hard both day and night. As said before some make it and some don't. It's important to find two dogs that hunt and have the traits that you want. Don't by any means breed a cull to a treedog or two culls and look for a super pup to come out of the cross. It could happen but odds are you will spend a year or so walking behind garbage.

good looking coon dog you got there mississippiboy.
Beautiful dog Misissippiboy . Unfortunately our cur ended up making the choice for us and would have nothing to do with the hound when she came in heat. Thanks for all the replies.
