Quiet Time

Yep, one of my least favorite times of the year. The only redeeming value to the next 3 months is late season turkey hunting.

Went out Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to have my last who-raa until July 8th. We had some quick and some not so quick tracks. We looked at a few coons and wore the hip boots out just a little more.

Now, I will start running my son's dog with my bike to keep her fit, and I may just pop up at some of the local hunts. I have to make sure my worst handler of all time title is safe.

I agree with you Larry I hate this time of year. I wish the MDNR would figure this out and just let us run all year like some of the other states.

I generally lay up from about the middle of May until the end of August myself. Poison Ivy/Oak like me to well to have it all over me again. I may slip out to a hunt here or there though.

Larry I have the worst handler trophy here at my house.

Larry I feel for you'll. Here in va we at least get to run our hounds year around. From the end of March to tell early fall we have chase season. It's only on private land. Normally july august and september I don't hunt alot anyhow. The heat and SNAKES keeps me out of the woods. I still find a night are two, get them out. I no its prob been tried but get up you're local state Rep & see what haft to be done to get a chase season..

Take care and if you're ever down this way bring um. Will turn em loose.

I'm not 100% sure but some of the guys I've been hunting with told me you can hunt on private land, if you have the land owners written permission, and a note from them saying you are hunting "nuisance coon."

At least I hope they are right. Treed a couple last night.

Just found this interesting sentence on the Michigan DNR Website:

"Raccoon may be taken on private property by a property owner or designee all year if they are doing or about to do damage on private property. A license or written permit is not needed."

The link is here: http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,4570,...0998---,00.html

PAUL

THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE LAW ENFORCEMENT DIV. AND THE WILDLIFE DIV. DIFFER ON THIS . ONE SAYS ANY LAWFUL MEANS AND THE OTHER SAYS YOU CAN'T USE LIGHTS OR HUNT AT NIGHT . SO DO YOU HUNT WITH DOGS AND CHANCE A TICKET AND HAVE TO FIGHT IT IN COURT ? JUST REMEMBER IT IS A WONDERFUL LIFE .

BIGGER PROBLEM IS YOU CAN HAVE ALL THE GUNS YOU WANT BUT YOU WILL BE WITHOUT AMMO .

Paul,

Gary is right. MSUCHA had a letter from the Wildlife Division giving us permission.

The Law Enforcement Division is who keeps fighting us on nuisance coon from April till July. They claim they will write everyone a ticket they catch because under the use of light section doesn't say you can use a light from April till July.

MSUCHA is working on this issue, and again we have the support of the Wildlife Division. At this point, I don't know if the DNR intend to correct this issue in house or if it will go to the NRC.

At the current time, you will get a ticket if caught.

***********************************************

Bluetickman2002,

You are welcome. It was my pleasure.

***********************************************

The worst part about quiet time is we have some of the best running weather from April till the beginning of july.

Skip,

The Law Enforcement Division made a law interpretation and reversed the Wildlife Division's previous stand.

The issue was discussed at a meeting in March with the DNR. The Wildlife Division warned us of the change. We are working to get it changed back.

I am under the impression that here in New York if your on your own land or your families land you can train dogs.

If you read the book you will see the catch is that you can train dogs on your own land as long as its not on wild game.

The weather at night during this time is some of the best all year.

*********************************************

Skip,

Nope, land owner permission is not enough. We haven't given up fight yet.

*********************************************

It would really help with all coon hunters everywhere providing more support for their state organizations.
