Our Population is Down were it was when we had Distemper Killing them !!
I haven't seen any sick coon at all There Just Gone !! I have 1 coon visting one of my small Ponds but he's only showing up every 2 - 3 days .. I just can't understand it .. I walked over 3 miles of the Shenandoah River yesterday, checking all the mud flats and sand bars and Only saw 2 different sets of tracks ... Very Very Bad

Took my seven-month old female hammer bred out after midnight. We were walking down a dirt road heading toward a beaver swamp, saw a set of eyes coming towards us. I thought it probally a fox. To my surprise it was a full-grown coon. I turned her loose-she was bitting at her tail in no time till the coon treed. It was a good start for a young dog that has only treed about ten easy coons.

Well it started off great! Turned a pup out with another dog and they got treed before I could even get everything out of the truck and ready. Saw the coon walking in but he must have gone to the very top of a Huge poplar after I tied the dogs back and couldnt ever get it to look again. Cut em loose again and they hunted out pretty far without hitting another track. Moved and after hunting a little bit the pup came back so I tied her up and walked away she started howling and another young dog I had out that will cover if he doesn't have anything going came back so I tied him up too. After they were good and mad about being tied I turned them loose and they took off in 3 different directions - DEEP. Garmin lost pup at 1500. Too deep to be alone and have 3 dogs out and have to be up real early next am LOL! Storm popped up - bet it got 10 deg warmer and man did the wind start howling - strange weather last night. Got drenched too. I was kicking myself after turning one of em loose that I tied back because whenever Ive done that to him you will have to get him off a tree - don't get me wrong thats what i want out of him but not in a thunderstorm and when I need to be home early LOL. Pup and one dog ended up treeing together with another coon. Other young dog decided he was more interested in a skunk he found... All in all a decent night - short and home by 10:00 but could have done without the dam skunk!!!!
Treed twice...found one...but we seen about 4 others sittin around..

Well I have a rule, I will only kill one kill a night off of each piece I hunt per week. That way I will always have them around.
Last night the wind was awful but decided to go for a little bit. Goal was to be home by 10:00. Turned loose about 8:30 and by 9:00 had one treed.
