Training ? for young dog. Getting stuck on tracks

Need some help or advise on what to do with a young dog that it getting really bogged down on tracks. He will stand on his head and booooootick it forever. even after another dog lines out. He's the type that has to do it all on his own anyway and is almost always alone so help from another dog is almost impossible.He is about year and half old and can get it done on his own and has no trouble treeing but this track thing is getting old. He's had a few boots in the rear but looking for some tricks or advise if anyone has any. Thanks

i think time and tuff tracks improve tracking ability but if he cant do it he just cant.... every dog isnt a track dog

Wait until kits start moving to make your final judgement. If he bogs down on a consistent basis in a couple months you may have an issue for certain. Just keep hunting him, you can't make him track any better. Try knocking out a coon or two.

You dont say how old the dog is or how much hes been hunted.
Ability to run a track is for the most part either there or its not, and no dog ever learned to run a track from another dog. They may look better with another dog but only because the other dog is taking the track and that pup follows along. Probably not what you want to hear but you are probably wasting time on a dog that just doesnt have the tools.

Start by refusing to excuse it. I don't spend alot of time wondering why. I just go in and move that pup on. At some point they will progress to where I move them out with the TriTronics. The point is, standing on their head is unacceptable. A pup your dogs age, assuming it has been hunted, should be able to take some training pressure. If he can't move it, make him move on and find one he CAN move.

If you lived in Ga., I wouldn't be giving any advice at all because that world is so different from mine but I have hunted enough in Ia. to know there are better tracks around the corner.

Dog is a 1 and half and has plenty of woods time.

Its not that he can't move a track. He can move some out good. Most of them when he does this he will be moving good for a while and then get stuck. He just hits a wall and acts like he lost it. Then just boooticks in the same spot.

Friend of mine has a young dog (under a year old) that had been running tracks pretty decent and getting under a coon, and then went to standing on his head to the point that we went in to him a couple times thinking he was treed. Long story short, my disgusted friend had the pup checked for low thyroid and it was very low. I don't think that it is very common in a dog this young, but his thyroid level was down to .5, might be worth having a checkup at your vet to rule out any medical reasons that your dog may be acting outside of normal.

It isn't all that easy to push that button, atleast it isn't for me. But my feeling is if we spend too much time worrying about ruining one, they will be ruined.

track should get warmer the father he runs it.he is not trying to
make a hole into a tree is he

bogging down

my pup does this sometimes on bad tracks, i have found that he just cant drift a track yet, when he looses it he isnt going far enough away from where he lost it to get it going again, he is only 10 months old and is getting better, i dont have another dog to help him out so i have been kicking him in the ass and it seems to be helping out with the problem

hawk i dont know for sure but it sounds me to me like the dog is running the track backwards when he goes from hot track to boo hooing. ive seen nite champions do it lol. i hunted with a dog that would run coyotes and when the coyote would stop running the dog would boo hoo.

lol lyle iam sorry bout that, i aint much pumpkin on typing what iam thinking lol. what i was trying to say is the dog might be back tracking on a coon, if he strikes a coon hot the track shouldnt fizzel out to were the dog is boo hooing around. the coyote part i was yapping about is i hunted a walker that would run a coyote real good until the coyote got tired of running and stand his ground and the dog would go to boo hooing around and he sounded to me like he was cold trailing but he was barking at that coyote standing there. that one took me a long while to figure out what that dog was doing cause he wouldnt stay real long.lol

im having the same trouble you are right now. but mine seems to be getting better. the more i hunt mine im starting to think its just a lack of cofidence. hade some on here tell me i was wasting my time cause if they dont have it then they just dont have it. not allways true each one is differant. yours might just be in that slump that some get into around that age. i give mine some time to try and get it strait when she bogs down like that then move her on. seems to be working or shes just starting to get sick of me not rewarding her when she does it. when she does do it right i make her feel like she just won the lottery. if i were you i wouldnt go shocking him unless he wont let you catch him to move to another spot. just snap the leash on him and move on. he will know your not happy when you do it if you just get firm with him in your actions, dont go givin him the boot tomuch cause he might not wanna hunt at all.

I understand what you said now. The only time mine got in a coyotes nest, mine wouldn't stand their ground. The got to booing and I wondereed WHAT? It did not last long and they were booger barking back over their shoulder LOL. And headed back to the field I was standing in. Made me mad bringing some kind of unknown bugger back in my direction. Could have been killer bees or wild hogs for all I knew. I called them Chicken ----s and made them feel bad about themselves when I got to the far end of the field out of breath.
