Track dogs at A.O.?
i read a while back or last year that in order to win at Oaks you need a fast silent tree dog. and if you have a track dog you dont have a chance? any input

You need the right guide AND a one or two dog cast.

Jim is on the right track. To win at AO you need to get a good draw and have a good guide. Having a coondog also helps.

Under the new format
AO is much different now. After you reach the top 16 its NON hunting guides and Non hunting judges. We have plenty of coon but also big soy bean fields and corn fields. use your own judgement.
If you have a track dog you should be able to win! JMO a track dog should be able to run a hott, medium, or cold track with out booing around and standing on it's head all night! A track dog to me can quickly move any type of track. If a dog takes forever to line a track out then they are not a track dog. Their will be some big scores, it helps to have a good guide and a little luck!

They have a lot of coons and tracks are very short, so a fast locating tree dog seems to do much better.

The Music dog of Harry's Oumedian won it years ago, and she was a good open mouth track dog.
By the way, a silent dog should never win. It is hard to prove a dog is silent, but it is not impossible.

There is enough coon your track dog should go past the semi silent dogs and tree coon. Also it had been so dry here you better have a decent track dog

I don't guess I get the difference? A good track dog runs the coon to the tree faster than a sorry track dog. Right? So why wouldn't it win? I know all the variables faster locating bla, bla, bla. The fact of the matter is what so many people call a "Track dog" is a dog that goes around trailing half the night, and no you cant win with one like that. In my opinion a good track dog is also a fast locator. The track ends there at the tree and he knows it because he is a good track dog. Now if he doesn't locate quickly its because he has to check it first. In that case the dog that located quicker is the better track dog because he knows there is no more track to be run. JMO and I have a lot of them.
If people would stop calling a dog that wants to run all night a track dog and start calling a cull we would all be a lot better off.

It was really dry last year. It's not near as bad this year is it Dustin?
from my understanding he was refering a track dog as a dog that opens on track and keeps it open...and he said you need a silent dog to win...i asked because my female is an open track dog not wide open but she barks while running im trying to search for it but not having any luck

so lets just get rid of the strike pts then it will be
how many coons did you tree
Guides
What I think UKC needs to do is have a bingo draw on all casts for GUIDES. This would eliminate all people that are saying I will guide. You hunt where you draw. This will make a big difference.
its easy to say fix this or that
The bottom line is these clubs do a good job and we need to get behind them. Hunt the warm ups and have a good time. Reguardless of what type of hound you have.
