Wicks Camo Jug

Does anybody have any info or old ads on the jug dog? I would like to know more about the dog and what he has reproduced, what kind of hunting style he had and what his pups did as well. What were some of the good and bad traits?

Good question Larry , I have a young dog with a couple shots of jug in his Ped. All you ever hear about jug seems to be alot of rummors about his blood. Someone must have been to the woods with this dog. Come on Guys?

call uncle john im sure he'll tell you all you want to know

I live a hour from John and hunted with Jug at least 20 times. Kick dirt in your face when you cut him. Would tree a coon 200 yards down a ditch or 2 miles thru the country and everything in between. Had a what I would call a high pitched crying type mouth on track. That was probaly a little above average in tone but you could hear him forever. A good tree dog and the times I seen him a legitmate 80 percent accurate. I seen the dog stay treed between 1 and 2 hours half a dozen times. I hunted with a few pups out of him. And all the ones I been with had half the drive he had but twice the mouth.

Anybody else hunting this line of dogs? Tell us about them, the good and the bad. I bought a double bred jug pup a couple of weeks ago and would like to know more. I have been told that they make real good bobcat dogs, I am crossing my fingers and waiting to find out.

I believe the cover page of the January CB is jug.

The dog I'm hunting right now has jug twice on the top side he is not two yet and turning out nicely. I would also like to hear from some more people who have hunted with Jug or anyone that has hunted with the dogs out of Jug, Chaps or George, just curious.

Posted by wabashvalleylep on 01-12-2009 04:02 PM:

I hunted against jug several times in hunts. We hunted the final 4 in 1998 together, and It seemed like every time we went to a hunt I drew him. We always went back and forth on who won. He was a bar nun coon dog. He could get deep and tree and you could walk to him. He was a heck of a track dog. I think he was a huge asset to the breed. That will probably make some mad, but he has helped the dogs. He was some fresh blood to get in the current leopard blood. There was so much controversay over this dog, some leopard owners still dont like the idea of hime being in dogs pedigrees and some wont even entertain putting a shot of jug in there dogs. I was all for it he was a coon dog. Rex laker of illinois has had real success putting several doses of jug in his dogs. Call him he could let you in on some of the history as well.

Hunted with him one night. On this night, he looked like a coondog!!!

larry how is that clover pup actin? thanks Jesse

Posted by Larry Emery on 01-15-2009 01:36 AM:

Jesse; That clover pup that I have is a nice acting pup, She is a little growly at strange dogs sometimes though. I have not hunted her yet but am going to start with her as soon as the weather gets better. Anytime that I come home with coon or bobcats in the truck she jumps in to check things out, she does a good job of winding them. She has a good voice and was treeing real nice on squirrels this fall.

Why would some people get mad bc people talk good about this Jug dog? Why wouldn't they consider putting some of his blood into their breeding program? Is there some sort of controversy surrounding him?

Sorry but I'm not touching that one.

Posted by Mac1st on 01-15-2009 06:08 PM:

I don't know if it is true or not but there was talk that he was half walker.

Posted by perry co cooner on 01-15-2009 07:06 PM:

Oh I see..................I was just curious. I don't care either way. I've never hunted with the dog and probably never will. I remember reading about the Tennessee Hardrock dog similiar things awhile back. Everything I ever heard about the dog was that he was all coondog.

I've read Mr. Wicks account of the issue. He states that Jug's first set of papers were wrong. He voided them and tracked down his true origins and pedigree and the leopard assoc. backed him up and put a new pedigree on the dog. Mr. Wick said that he did have some Finley Rv Walker dog in him, but it was way back and said he also had something in him called a "black diamond cur" that I've never heard of, also way back...according to what he'd found out about Jug.
