cold northern weather

has anybody been brave enough to hunt in this cold northern states weather we have been having. i have been holed up just like the coon.

IF MY DOG CAN'T TREE A COON IN THIS TYPE OF WEATHER. THERE NOT GOING TO BE ON MY FEED VERY LONG. COLD NIGHTS AND COON HUNTING IS THE WAY I LIKE IT. BECAUSE I KNOW ITS JUST ME OUT THERE THE SHINNERS AND THE GUYS THAT SAY TO COLD THEY WON'T BE RUNNING TONIGHT AND THE NEXT DAY I WILL HAVE A COUPLE ON THE SHED WALL.

We got a foot of fresh snow here in SW Ny. I had my skirt on last week, but I plan on kicking some dogs loose this week regardless of what the weathers doing. It will be a good workout for me and the dogs. I do know that around here if we get 6" or more of fresh snow at one time most coon won't budge from thier den trees other than maybe getting a drink from a near by creek. After the snow has a day to settle they seem to start moving a little. My problem is my Patty dog has no problem with working the whole block no matter how big of woods. Makes for some long nights in deep snow. Its not uncommon for use to have 2 or 3 feet of packed snow on the ground to walk through this time of year and we only have a foot now so we got that going for us.

in michigan when it gets below twenty degrees at night they don't move. it has been twenty or below for about a week and a half now.

Went out with Larry Wilcox hunting Tae Bo and I had Redneck Girl with me. 2 drops - two boars on the outside. About 22 degrees.

We're getting hit with another round of lake effect agian tonight here in SW Ny. Guess the dogs will have to stay penned up agian. Only about 8" of snow expected this round.

Ventured out tonight, had two dens and two on the outside.
What really suprized me was both coons were big females.

Your coon must have had a layup period before matin season cause you are doing a heck of a lot better than me. I made 12 trees the past 2 nights combined and nothing to show for it on the outside even all with my old dog!! Seen tracks galore in the .5 inch of snow that is currently covering the ground in OH , but to no avail. I do feel good in that atleast I didn't kill them all That just about closes the 06/07 campaign for me till March when I bring back my 10 mo old to finish off. They must be moving during the day?????????????? This has been one wierd a$$ year!!!

It was alot better than I thought it was going to be, I don't even
remember killing a sow this time of year with 20 degree temps.
and 6 inches of snow. Never even looked at the first one, just
assumed it was a boar, till I noticed the second one was a sow.
Hated to harvest those big females. Also saw two dead on the road
on the way back. Three weeks ago we didn't have any snow
and the dogs couldn't hardly find a track. I think some are
probably moving during the day as my friends coyote dogs
treed one last Friday morning.

Ol rock can do it in any weather...... being in north east ohio you never know what the weather will bring.

They been movin real good for a couple weeks now.My driveway has been covered up with fresh tracks every mornin regardless of the temperature.

Been gettin down to single digits & we have easily a foot of snow on the ground.
