Tried that once grandfather to granddaughter 5 pups only one turned out and he is above average.

And I didn't get him I always pick the dud lol.

Like I said when you line breed or inbreed which is the same thing, you bring out the GOOD and you bring out the BAD. If the pups are as good or better then the sire and dam you have a good line of dogs and worth doing this type of breeding. Here again no matter how good you think your dog is inbreeding will tell the tail to inbreed or out cross. This type of breeding should not be done by most coonhunters.

As fasterthanuseddy said, all of those numbers don't really mean anything. What you should be looking at is each dogs good and bad traits.

Anytime I see where someone said the cross didn't work, to tight, Inbreed, and the pups just didn't have it, I don't pay any attention to it and this is why.. I made a cross one time that was unbelievable, It was a good cross even made a video of them. But I started all 9 of the pups here myself with my methods. Made the cross again and had only 8 pups this time sold them as pups to 8 coonhunters. None of the pups made it, they said they couldn't get them started. If your looking for a pup that can just go out and train it self, dogs like that are few and far between. If your looking for a cross that you don't have to train, a little inbreeding, let them run loose on a farm, talk to guys that know it all, you are dreaming. Most dogs are smarter then the owners: LOL

COI 0.25 looks high to me. I would not have guessed that. What breeding software did you use?

Historically, I have breed dogs tighter than you, and my two highest COIs were 0.20. Both were 1/2 brother and 1/2 sister crosses. Of course I try to target less than 0.20.

If the COI is truly 0.25, I would say it is time to look for an outcross. Malcolm Willis suggest a COI of 0.20 is still relatively safe. Some researchers claim it is best to keep COI about 0.12-0.15.

You can do a ton of stuff on the computer. We all know the key board sits perfectly still and allows us to manipulate it at will.. The catch is things done on a computer are much less satisfying than doing it in real life.

In the case above, It allows Hobo a little piece of mind that he isn't breeding his dogs too close.

They weren't bred on the computer... But he did have to be thawed out before she was bred.
