Ok,don’t laugh, ON THE SEARCH FOR A POSSUM DOG

I would like to find a possum dog for me and my daughters to hunt.
They don’t go as far to tree, they are low down so my kids can see them, and we have tons of them.

Breed or sex doesn’t matter
It can tree an occasional coon
But I am primarily looking for a possum dog

Some of the best I have ever been with was a hound / cur cross you might check the shelters I had a buddy got two pups that way and man they were gamey you don't want a cold nosed dog more like medium to hot nose a couple caged possums they pick it up quick kinda like to have one myself just to go have fun with once in a while.

My buddy has a half redbone half blue tick right now that came from the shelter and he makes good dogs look bad.

We have a lot of possums in southern mn though bob. Seen 5 possums crossing the road in 1 night of driving. 0. Coons

When I was about 12 years old a man gave me a coon dog the first I took him hunting he t reed nothing just ran around lookin....the next night he treed a possum and then another and he treed them suckers like clock work from then on.....i was one happy hunter !!!!!!

I bought a Clover bred female outa Minnesota a few years ago, I couldn't believe how many possums there are on 40 acres. Treed 4 possum in a half hour within spittin distance of the house. She went back to Mn.

Some of the best possum dogs I've hunted with were walkers. They don't slick tree on possums.

Possums all most seem proud that they beat the dog to the tree. There are no circle trees with possums.

Find an ad that is advertising a jam up tree dog. If it says "dog will tree a possum in thin coon" $500 or best offer...

High Ridge , I had a good one a couple years ago but I ruined him. lol Only trees coons now. On a serious note I like your idea. Its not a bad idea at all. Its about the hound and the experiences that come along with it not really what the quarry or type of game we chase. Its about the sounds of hounds that get our blood flowing. If a person is just doing it for the enjoyment side of things you are definitely on to something. Good luck in your search. It prob wouldn't be to tough to train one in a hurry.

Brother N Law has a Cur dog that will tree coon possum or bay diller. And is great squirrel dog. He uses him to keep critters out his chickens so he don't break him off nothing. He won't run fast game. We take him out and it's a blast killing possum and diller. He sounds like what your looking for cause he don't hunt far and always has something exciting happening. Only negative is he don't open on track or have that big beautiful hound mouth.
