Rabble Rouser and Moonlight Kate

Can anyone tell me about their littermates? Did any of them make coon dogs. Not only titled dogs but dogs that could tree coons.

Rabble was out of Rat X Raven. Both of them were on those "Lists" back in their day. Raven was out of Bomber X Bell. Both of them were on those lists back in their day..

Thanks for the info Richard. Do you know anything about the rest of the dogs in Rabble's litter. Would any of the others run and tree coons.

I can't speak for those in Kate's litter but I can for rabbles litter and also his full sisters and brothers. Tom and Dave made the rat and Raven cross several times and there were coondogs in every litter. I even owned one of them, Lexus. I remember biscuit, Lexus, rebel, another one owned by Chris Snyder, another owned by Pete Flanagan. Biscuit was one win away from being grand nite, petes female was a grand nite, I think Chris's female was a nite champ, Lexus was a nite champ, rebel was a grand nite. There was another in West Virginia that had 2 first place wins but the owner was to afraid he would get killed and never put him in another hunt. Plenty of others that were local around tom in Wisconsin that were coondogs but were owned by pleasure hunters.

I hunted with rabble, biscuit, Lexus and rebel. All were coondogs. So to answer your question, yes, the rat and Raven cross produced dogs that treed plenty of coon and could do it in style. I would have loved to have owned biscuit, I loved watching that female tree coon.

Rabble was no one hit wonder, he was a coondog that came from a cross that produced coondogs ....over and over again.

I know that Pigeon and Raven were both on the List at one time but what about Emma Lou and Tree Ringin Ann?

Posted by Justin Dycus on 10-08-2017 08:58 PM:

Thanks Pastor Mike. That was very helpful. I know Rabble has produced a lot of good dogs from several different crosses. Do you know which female he was bred with that produced the majority of the litter making coon dogs.

Posted by Richard Lambert on 10-08-2017 09:18 PM:

Oh my goodness, now you are asking for a personal opinion.

I am terribly biased but the Rabble X Sally litter produced Moose and Willow out of only 3 or 4 pups. The Rabble X Pigeon litter produced a bunch of "good" ones. Pigeon was Raven's full sister so it was an Uncle X Niece cross.

I'm not sure the totality of numbers. There are several that produced nice dogs throughout. I bumped up rabbles old thread on the stud dog page. You probably could go through it and see what turns up. Before tom had his stroke he would update that thread about pups that were doing well in the hunts and just in the woods in general. Rabble offspring as well as other arenas of t-top hounds have also done very well on big game too.

Yes, rabble/Sally produced good ones as well as the pigeon cross. The crosses that produced dogs such as rocky, deuce, red and griz should be looked at obviously. The cross that produced yank and leinie was a good one.

I would have liked to have seen rabble put on females directly off CD, directly off doc and some b3 stuff. Those are some lines I have a little experience in. I'm sure he would have crossed well on other lines, I just don't have any experience with some of the other lines.

I know I'm forgetting a bunch. As I think about it, I should remember more. I'm getting older......not as old as Richard though.

One thing I do know is Tom would help anyone out if he was able. He would meet folks, breed for a pup and sometimes just let a female be bred for nothing.

Richard, I'm pretty sure that tree ringing Ann was on the list at some point.

Thanks for the info guys. That's interesting stuff. Sounds like Mr. Tom knows a thing or two about raising coon hounds.

Yes, stonewall rebel. he spent most of his life in montana with mark bates. he was a good coondog and lion hound. Mark used him on both. I hunted with him once at tom's.....I think it was in the spring of the year so it's been a long time ago. I remember he was a great tree dog. Tom always said he would tree with all four feet on the tree. anyway.....I cant remember how he hunted that night, just know we treed a few coons. we usually would get struck within a couple hundred yards along the corn. I don't remember dropping him alone. we also hunted a dog out of rebel for quite some time....his name was spook. He was a nice dog.

Kevin Jackson also hunted with Rebel alot. He probably could tell us much more on hunting style. I'm not sure how much kevin gets on here anymore though. Maybe he'll see this thread.

We had a littermate to Moonlight Kate. She was as ugly as they come but a tree dog out of this world. She was a longer bodied dog with a coke bottle nose. She produced really well on my Shock dog who was a son of Timber Jack. He was a full brother to Outlaw Moon, Outlaw Jack, and Timber Girl.

Behind Kate was the most concentrated Timber Chopper Bloodline that included Timber Chopper 22 times.

I was just talking to Jordan Rathke last night about the Burning Ben x Rose cross that produced the sire of Kate (Rat). The mother of Rat was from a really good litter out of Timber Jack x Bosley's Kate. Great stuff!

I think Willy was only bred once while he was up here. We sold him to Wayne Campbell when he was gettin some age on him so its quite possible his count was down. I bought him as a pup from Jordan Rathke and Bill Wallach, started him and sold him to a guy that hunted with me a lot. Willy was usually the other direction from everything else runnin anything BUT coon but was really no fault of the dog. Never had a tracking collar or an e collar on him his whole life and run loose more then he was tied. I got a little more involved with him again when he was about four, got a handle on some of the foolishness and he settled into a coon treein machine. Medium nosed hard huntin dog deadly accurate and would split every time if there was enough coons to allow it. Real nice coarse bawl mouth.

Doc Rose was a three legged dog is that right ?
