What do you feed your pregnant females and litter numbers?

The thread on heat cycles and the number of responses that detailed females on Victor red bag made me curious.

What did you feed your last pregnant female (before and after she was bred)?

How many pups did she have?

If she missed include that information also.

I'll go first -

Litter #1
8 year old female
Victor hi Energy (red bag) before breeding.
Victor hi Energy during pregnancy with 1 scoop Dog Forte
Victor hi pro plus about 1 week before whelping with 1 scoop dog Forte
5 healthy pups

Litter #2 (same female)
9 year old female
Same feeding regimen as above
6 pups (2 born dead, one of which was not viable) and she layed on another which was otherwise healthy. Raised 3 healthy pups.

My last litter the female was 7 years old, she had been eating either Purina Dog Chow or Ol Roy Maximum before and during her pregnancy. Switched to Purina Puppy Chow when the puppies were born. Had 7 pups raised them all

Pro plan 30-20 and switched to feeding the bitch purina puppy food three weeks prior to whelping pups and keeping her on until pups are pulled off. Pups stay on puppy food an bitch back to 30-20.

Jane. First litter, 10 pups. Victor purple bag. Raised all. Next litter, 6 pups. Raised them all, but didn't make as much milk. Red bag.(1 year apart). Last 2 heat cycles, only lasted 8-10 days from start to finish.
Izabell. Last litter. 13, 11 survived, but made very little milk. Only enough to allow her to feed overnight no matter what we gave her. Wife and I hand fed throughout the day. Victor red bag. Last 3 heat cycles, erratic. Bred last April, didn't take. Last heat cycle only lasted 8 days.
Sammie. Last heat cycle, 9 days. Victor red bag. Last time in heat, first week of March. Hadn't came back in since.
This has been over 2 1/2 years. Been on Victor approximately 1 year before anything different showed itself. I feed purple 26/16 summertime, red bag 24/20 winter time.

I've raised 6 litters here, all got pro plan 30-20 as much as they wanted to eat of it. After pups were born I'd start mixing some of the regular purina puppy chow for the pups. But really I didn't even have to do that, only reason I got the pups on regular puppy chow was because it was cheaper and I figured their new owners would prob be feeding them that.

Also about 3 weeks before the pups were due, I'd give my female a C9 vitamin about every other day.

And I think there have been an approx total of 60 pups raised here (not all by same mother), and I lost 4 of them. raising 56 outa 60 ain't too bad.

3 yr old, first litter 11 pups. Raised them all. She has been on Showtime 27/20 before and during the litter. No mikade. Weaned the pups on to the same feed .

I have raised a couple hundred pups over the last twenty years. I usually feed Purina Dog Chow from mid March through October and Diamond High Energy 24/20 from November through March. I feed Purina Puppy Chow for the last two weeks of pregnancy until the pups are weaned. I have bred seven different females in that time frame. All have averaged 8-9 pups per litter up until they were nine years old. Then litter size fell off. Only one of the seven females had heat cycles where there was little swelling. She was a little harder to tell which day was the best to breed on but always had good litters when the right day was used in cycle. All the others had completely normal cycles.

I know 3 people with 3 completely different litters that have had serious troubles with dogs whelping and raising pups , that the females were fed victor red bag, one has spent just at $1000 as of the vet bill today the other spent $550 2 weeks ago the 3rd spent $769 last week all were placenta problems , all 3 dogs had pups before on Purina and sportsmix with no problems, so No victor for me

mama #! 10 pups 4 hanging on but don't know after trip today if mom or pups will make it
mama#2 8 pups 7 died within a day 1 lived being bottle fed for 3 more days and died
mama 3 7 pups no survivors

I put all my females on Purina Puppy Chow about 3 to 4 weeks before they are due to whelp. I've had litters from 2 all the way up to 13.

Purina dog chow all the time. About two weeks prior I feed the birth I feed her a scoop of puppy chow with her food. I also continue that until pups are eating good.

First litter 3 year old female had 8 1 was stillborn. So raised 7
Last litter different female 3 had 10 raised all 10.
