Comfortis is the best flea medication on the market I now use Nexgard it is for both fleas and ticks to cut cost on either one buy the pill for 60-120 lbs and cut in half . Both of these products treat for 30 days and your dog will have no fleas those on it will die within 30 min . Clean out dogs area and treat it with pretherine , 7 or something I use diatomaceous earth you can get it at most feed stores . You can bathe dog with T Gell shampoo cheap and works great on skin issues.

Posted by ahallada on 07-18-2015 01:03 AM:

Flea allergy is one of the most intense allergies in dogs. It's from a reaction to the protein in flea saliva and can last up to two weeks. It usually affects the back 1/3 of the dog , especially rump and back legs.

It usually requires an oral or injectable cortisone to relieve the symptoms. I usually prescribe Triamcinolone pills or give the injection that lasts for 7-10 days.

Best flea products I've used for preventing and treating fleas is Comfortis/ Trifexis, NexGard, and Bravecto. NexGard has been the most reliable product of the three and lasts about 10 days longer than Comfortis with the added benefit of preventing ticks as well. Bravecto and NexGard are more palatable / tasty than Comfortis. If you are using Comfortis for flea allergy , you may need to repeat dosing every 2-3 weeks to keep the concentration high.

Treat the environment monthly for fleas and ticks and bathe dogs at least monthly to keep egg counts down and prevent the flea life cycle from
repeating.

I didn't have any luck with the diatomaceous killing fleas on the dogs, but it works great putting it in their bedding and spreading it on the yard.

NexGard has been more reliable for fleas in our area with 100% kill rate in 4 hours. That kill rate stays at this level for a full 30 days where Comfortis starts to drop around 14-21 days. You need this high kill rate to prevent flea allergy. If fleas feed on a dog for awhile before dying , it increases the flea saliva antigen level in the dog. You want a product like NexGard or Bravecto that maintains this high / fast kill rate for at least 30 days.

Bravecto is a great product for those wanting a quick fix one tablet solution. One tablet costs $50-$57 and provides up to 3 months of great protection from both fleas and ticks. There is no chemical exposure to you and your children and you can bathe the dogs as much as you want with no effects on its effectiveness. Great products!

You can get it at Walmart & Dollar General for 2-3 $'s a bottle . It has coal tar as it's active ingredient and works great on a multitude of skin issues . Fleas and briar allergies sometimes cause dermatitis on dogs skin it seems to work very well on both . People with eczema , psoriasis , dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis . Anytime we have a dog that has developed any kind of skin issue I bathe with the T+Gell the treat the problem with usually either betadine or Nu Stock . Betadine will treat and kill ringworms , staph infections , fungal infections ,hot spots and many other skin issues you can find it in the blue Gell at your local Dollar General on the pet section for about $5 . There is very little that Nu Stock won't clear up I use it on wounds , cuts , sores and females sides if they have hair loss from nursing pups on their sides . It has been said on here before it will grow hair on concrete . You can find it at many feed stores around $15 a tube it has sulfur , pine oil and mineral oil . Diatomaceous earth (also found at your local feed store)I use it in dog houses and kennels . It only works in dry conditions it is completely safe for pets and people (you can eat it if you think your wormy lol) it kills any and all insects by drying out their exoskeleton . It is also good in chicken coops .
When treating anything find the root of the problem whether it be fleas or if a dog has severe skin issues a food allergy or contact allergy I have seen some that require a depo medrol shot .
