how many??

How many dogs do people keep? I see alot of people "thinning down" on here and have 5-6 dogs for sale! I guess i didnt realize how many dogs one person would want to own. wouldnt feed get high?lol do you guys really hunt that many dogs. i think its a chore to hunt one or two the way they need it let alone a half a dozen.

Agree....I've had three at one time and couldn't hunt them enough, somebody always got left out...unless you're the type that likes to go and dump the box and I've been broke from that...lol

I'd dare say a lot of these guys selling dogs that are just thinning down on dogs. Are dog jockeys,,jmo

lol maybe some of them . me personally I have around twenty on the yard . coon hounds , squirrel dogs and my hog dogs . and I'm thinking on thinning down myself so ya'll don't start a bunch of hoowy on here lol .

I am single now the last 24 years and yep the feed bill get's high I feed around 25lbs a day . but I still drive my 68 ford f-100 and I owe nobody nothing after retirement . I've never had too many dogs to run the fire out of lol

I keep myself busy with the dogs 24/7 in hopes of not having enough spare time to find a new wife . I'm scared she'd be like the last one !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I keep as many as 5 and i hunt as hard or harder than any body on this board. It is very hard to hunt them all. In the summer i can hunt the hair off of 3 dogs so its good to have them then but in the winter 2 is plenty. I drop the box when
I go if their all finished hounds. Then ill ride the 4 wheeler to each tree were their should be 1 dog on each tree. I dont have a day job and the only night job i have is coon hunting so for someone that works and has 5 or more dogs are not doing them justice.

3 hounds & 1 squirrel dog here and that's probably one to many on the hounds.

Here's what gets me......
I have to thin down I have too may dogs to hunt right now..... Then you click on next add that you like and they're interested in buying the dog in the add. Saying how much and I'm looking for a "good" dog to hunt.

This is why "YOU TRY BEFORE YOU BUY"

But back to subject I don't have but 2 dogs. And can't seem to find the time to hunt both like should be. But I know a guy that has 30+ dogs and he seems to hunt everyone of them several times a week. But he has coondawgs, coyote dogs, bear dogs, bird dogs. And he only hunts 2-3 at a time. But he owns a x-mas tree farm and says he has the free time to be able to hunt and raise dogs like he does. I personally don't know when the guy sleeps. He'll hunt all night with hounds and then hunt his bird dogs during the day.

I have one dog and that is all I need so he gets to go hunting whether I hunt by myself or with someone. He gets the job done by himself and that is the way I hunt most of the time. In my opinion, there is very few dogs that get hunted enough anyway. So for me there is no reason to have more than one. When he gets some age on him, I will get me a pup and start all over.

I have 5 but only hunt 4, I try to hunt 6 nights a week 2 hours a night. Some nights i hunt one dog, some nights two dogs, some nights three dogs and that is only because i have one that i dont need too put a leash on or i wouldnt hunt three. I also work 14 hour days, 6 days of the week and 3-4 hours on sunday.

I agree. I can't imagine having that many dogs. Just trying to wrap my head around more dogs than a handful is hard. I've never had more than 3. I hope I didn't offend anyone. With the previous comment. I just find it kinda funny that people do that.

A lot of guys seem to thin down, for several months then go on a buying spree, get burned out several months later and go on a selling spree. It's a vicious cycle lol

lol Yeah I know what your saying. I can't say I haven't wanted to buy a couple different dogs before. Just kinda makes you wonder is all. Maybe the owner is really hard to please. But in most cases they're trying to pawn a dog off that's a sorry SOB.

Posted by robert whitten on 03-19-2015 08:23 PM:

lol all I can say is I'm glad I don't have the room to run yotes in my neck of the woods or I'd have a few running walkers as well .

and I might add that I'm in texas , we can hunt just about anything year round . no coon kill season , many county's don't have a closed squirrel season , and all the hogs you can kill daily . heck we still consider mountain lions and bobcats as varmits down here no closed season .

so if you have the energy and gumption to get up in the mornings and stay out late at night you never have to stop running dogs . GOTTA LOVE TEXAS !!!!

but I know what you are talking about novicane that '' I don't have enough time '' and all is a pretty standard selling point for a dog that they don't want to put anymore time into lol .

Posted by oldblueboy706 on 03-20-2015 01:53 AM:

I've got 4 right now. 2 that I hunt frequently a young dog that I carry most every night I go and one that's semi-retired. I generally carry her if I go with someone who's dogs I don't know well. That's still about 1 to many
