It can't.
I have a cur that has chewed both my grapevines and apple trees in my yard when he treed cats in both, but have not had him chew when coon or squirrel hunting.
I dont understand the behavior.

u can slow it down with an ecollar seen some broke but its hard u really gotta be on your toes on this had a buddy stop it but he's the only one ive seen able to stop it!!
not gonna say it can or cant be done. but pour some really hot sauce on the tree where its chewin lol
just gonna make him stop when u get there with ur condoments collar lets him know you are in control miles away.
that is true however shockin on the tree sounds kinda dumb 50-50 make em or ruin em
well im not the one with the problem dont even try it go to the piggly wiggly by some tabasco! lmao
turkeyridgejake good luck with ur dog i really hope u fix this chewing is a problem and can lead to other problems ive had dogs choke on sticks bite locust thorns accidently bite another dog! wish the best
U can try this .In his dog pen go get about and 8ft 2x4 bury it about 2 feet or so.after about 2 days you will see where he has started knawing on the board, well after you see that go saturate it in Texas Pete or something. If you have concrete kennels then try to build you a sturdy platform with a 2x4 sticking straight up.alot if times it just isn't a coon tree ther knawing on.this will work sometimes.goodluck

i was just messin around with the hot sauce there slick. Refering to the ol tale of puttin hot sauce on kids fingers to keep them from bittin their nails. IT WAS A JOKE . I havnt had one that chewed all the time , a lil here and there. Good luck breakin him.
You could put a good pad muzzle on him so he can not chew but still bark after a good while he may stop even chewing altogether but some may never stop chewing without with the muzzle on.

I know guys who have had very good luck in stopping bad tree chewers by having their eye teeth removed .

didnt they do that to bad habit??
This was just another breeding that should never have happened.
Cut his teeth! Can start by just cutting "Eyeteeth"! If that don't work cut all his front teeth from eye tooth to eye tooth! Key here is hunt him as many night as possible right after you cut teeth!
quote:thats not a good way to break a dog at chewing when hes treed , shocking him at the tree, thats a good way to ruin a dog. in my opinion chewing at the tree just shows the dog wants whats up there real bad. as long as its not a nother dog its chewing on i really see no problem in the dog chewing at tree. but as far as using a shock collar, THATS A BIG NO NO,unless you dont want a dog that trees then use it.

if u know what your doing there is no problem the nono would be to misuse the collar i have done this alot i always use the collar to train at the tree!!
also the other night i was huntin a pup treed a possom shocked him of tree he came to me i swated him said git he fell treed every breath!! had a coon didnt bother him!
might help
I bought a powder at Teskes. Its alocal feed and seed.Looked for it but i evidently used it all up.So may be no help but just to let you know there is a powder you sprinkle all over whatever the dog is chewing on and it does work fairly well.I had a bad chewer and it definately slowed her down.If i had kept at it believe it would have broke her.
