Are we talking one dog moving between these two trees?
Or two dogs , one on each tree?
Or what?

Well, they aren't considered one tree just because a dog is covering both.
The answer to your question is.... the judge must decide if the two trees are scored as one tree or are they scored as two separate trees? Once that question is decided, a dog covering both trees will be minused if the trees are scored as separate trees and plussed for a coon if both trees are scored as one.

Dog hasta show a tree. Not two. Hard lesson I learned in the 87 Michigan State hunt...cost me the whole shooting match.

If I can touch both trees with my elbows at the same time, I can almost guarantee that 95% of the time I am scoring as one tree. A good judge will tell you how they are scoring the tree and why before he scores it.
Tracy,
I lost an RQE once because the crazy dog was running back forth between 2 trees 20 yards apart. The dog still placed 5th, but that mistake cost 1st.

I missed the closeness part, my tree was 15 feet apart, and it cost me the cast win, which would have won the hunt for me.

In UKC 1 in the air one on the ground. In PKC dog must show a tree doesn't matter if they touch or not in the air.

I recall the thread where they said a dog can cover both trees if both trees are being scored as one but I don't recall that they ever said two trees touching was automatically scored as one. I believe that remains a judges decision.

Jim is correct because two trees can touch but it may not be a viable crossing point for a coon. I have seen coons reach out and pull limbs over to cross out and the trees never really touched but it is rare and just because two trees touch does not mean they are scored as one.
If you can score as one in the air then they are one on the ground. I still think the dog should show tree or be minused but that is not how UKC see's it.
