Best Breed
Just wondering what everyone thinks the best breed is. I personally think English and blue are. But what do you guys think and why?
Walkers !

walkers far out number the rest of the breeds for a reason...
I always thought walkers was the only breed!
If ya wanna tree dog and every night multiple multiple times get a walker help ya stay in shape you will get to walk to ALOT OF EMPTY TREES. wanna see coon English or blue is the way to go. I've been around many many and many of walkers not seen 1 and I mean 1 good honest coondog! I'm sure the wrath of the walker Gods is gonna try and strike me down but that's my experience.

Can't say for sure which is the best, but I sure do enjoy black and tans, and I can honestly say that I will never own a walker or a bluetick as long as I live.

If you have hunted for any length of time at all an honest person will tell you there is real nice hounds in all breeds. It just depends on your preference of color and what kind of style coonhound you like. I personally like black and tans and have had some really good ones and have some real nice ones now. Alot of my friends have walkers and blueticks and i have to say between pleasure hunting and comp hunting i have seen good and bad in all of them.

BLUETICKS since 1954
Would you too say that bluetics(on average) can flat move a track and get it treed like they were looking at it? Is extreme track speed the norm in the bluetic breed?

i'm not color blind i'd hunt a green one if it'd tree coons
I've always hunted blueticks. I've lost to every breed in the hunts to. So I'm not saying theyre the best. You've got different hunting and treeing styles within each breed so it's whatever bloodline you prefer. That's my 2 cents

This thread is a good way to get a fight started and bad feelings brewing. Hopefully this can be constructive and not have those problems.
I'll be honest, I've owned all seven coonhound breeds plus about 3 breeds of cur (and some mixed hound/cur/birddogs). I've seen good ones in all of them (honestly) and I've owned some real duds out of all of them as well.
Here's a piece of advice an old man gave me one night while on a competition hunt: "Figure out which breed you like the looks of the most and hunt them. It's easier to feed something you like the looks of!" I think there is something to that.
It's also important to remember your tastes might change as you get older or your hunting territory changes. How many older guys do you know who are moving to hunting a cur? I could take you to guys who are "big-time" in the breed their hunting and show you a few years back where they owned something else. That's fine, nothing wrong with trying something different. And maybe, just maybe, that "different" dog will have you switching breeds.
I know my dad, the whole time I was growing up, had Walkers. We had a grandson of Wick's Stylish Banjo that was tough. You know what though? Old Sport died and a few years later dad got a Black dog. Go to my dad's house now and there are four dogs tied out and all of them are B&T's and he has served as a director for the B&T Association. He found the right one and the right line that suited him and he's staying put. I've got half a female off his old dog but I personally just can't get into hunting a B&T. I've seen a lot of good 'uns though.
As for me, what's best? Well a couple of years ago I would have said Plott, and I still have a soft place in my heart for Plott dogs. Just couldn't find one that suited me though. Right now I've got a little English gyp I plan on raising some pups out of and I really like her. She's the right kind and sharp looking too. I'm in the English breed now and couldn't be happier. I don't intend on moving any time soon.
Go out and hunt with a lot of dogs, in several states like some of us on here have and you'll see the good, and bad, in all breeds.
It's a matter of personal preference, not whats "best".
