is it just a round spot???? u said spots sounds like it could be round worm if you dont hunt the dog often could be a box sore depending on where it is mange is usually wide spread pretty quick and usually starts on chest belly and legs

Mearicle products

Wormer-pesticide
Sprinkle it liberally on the dogs bedding and rub it into the coat.

Ear solution
Apply to bare, infected areas to treat them. It is anti bacterial, and anti fungal. It will kill ringworm if that is the problem.

Also the 1/10cc Ivomec per 10 lbs body weight is the recommended dosage. Too much Ivomec will cause liver or kidney faliure.

I didn't say using Ivomec causes liver damage. I said overdosing with Ivomec can. I personally know someone who killed their dog overdosing with it. I have used it without issues. I was just saying it is a chemical that when used in overdose amounts can cause liver damage.

P.S. he is right it will kill mange, lice, fleas, ticks, and all worms EXCEPT tapes.

Ivomec can be bought injectible in 1% and .27% solutions. I generally used the .27% simply because it was easier to get the EXACT dosage right. If you go that route look closely to see the concentrated %, and follow the directions. You can also shoot it down their throat with a syringe and give it orally. I just draw it out, then remove the needle and administer it orally...

The best thing I've found ,and I'm surprised more people haven't yet went to it, is the puor on ivermectrin. The brand I use is Duravet and it takes 1cc per 22#. Just draw it up in a syringe, remove the needle and run it down their back next to the skin. I always put a very small amount in each ear too and never have any ear problems either.
This stuff does everything any other form of ivomec will do and is much easier to give. I think it works better on external parasites especially fleas and ear mites and is somewhat of a mosquito prevenative to help keep the dog from being bitten in the first place.

I have a dog that has kinda of the same thing had her to the vet numerous times for this I was told a possible allergy so the vet gave me a medicated shampoo and a benadryl 25mg pill a day.

A thyroid issue could be the problem. Burnt motor oil will fix mange problem. So will ivomec but you need to use it for 30 straight days. Been there done that..

I have seen THIS exact thing done 3 separate times, all three dogs died... Ivermec can be used for many things but should be watched closely due to the fact that OVERDOSING, compared to being used correctly, can EASILY kill a dog. If used properly it can be very handy! the best thing that anyone can do, which us coon hunters rarely do, is call the vet and check with them. it costs $0 to call the vet and ask. this doesnt work with all vets, cuz some will keep pushing for you to bring them in, so call a different one. everyone will tell you what they have tried on here, but then you get people that overdose dogs or it could be something besides what you think it is. never hurts to have a FREE professional opinion

sounds to me like ring worm if it is several round bald spots which is actually a fungus you can spot treat with anti fungal meds like monistat or lotramin or you can buy lyme dip from revival health and dip the dog with the awful smelling stuff use it kinda strong will not hurt the dog safe to use on pups and bred females vet told me about it when my dog that was fixin to drop pups came down with bad case of ring worm you can test my diagnosis by putting a black light over her the spots will kinda if it is ring worm good luck

This can be anything from food/environmental allergies, ringworm, mange, to systemic yeast issues.

Only way to know for sure is take in to vet.

I have had dogs w liver damage caused by ivermectin just taking heartguard. Not hounds. Dogs sensitive to ivermectin, such as common with herding breeds, can develop liver damage over short term use as directed. It is also NOT cheap to treat either. Most dogs won't show outward signs their owners catch until much later. Mine were caught on yearly blood draws.

1cc for a 50 lb dog was the highest dose I have seen or heard a vet give of ivermectin. Poisoning can be fatal and even if not can give an owner one heck of a scare. No fun watching a dog in a drunken stupor knowing they have been oversized on wormer. It impacts their central nervous system. They act like they are having a stroke. We use to have several come into the vets when I worked there.

My vet always told me never use drench (pour on) for dogs so I don't have dosing knowledge of that. I do know that drench doesn't have the safety margins as you can get it on your kids and yourself.

I HAD A FEMALE ONCE WITH RED MANGE. MY VET STARTED HER OUT ON THE CORRECT INTERCEPTOR DOSEAGE. RECHECKED, NO CHANGE, GAVE HER THE CORRECT DOSAGE BI=MONTHLY, LITTLE CHANGE, GAVE HER THE PROPER DOSAGE EVERY WEEK, THEN GAVE HER THE PROPER DOSAGE DAILY,CLEARED HER UP, SHINED LIKE A SILVER DOLLAR. NOW, YOU PROBABLY THINK I'M RICH, BUT MY VET, IN CO-ORDINATION WITH THE INTERCEPTOR SALESMAN GAVE US OUTDATED MEDICINES, AS A TRIAL FOR RED MANGE. SHE HAD NO KIDNEY OR LIVER DAMAGE!! BUT, WHEN I TRIED TO LENGTHEN THE DOSAGE BACK OUT, IT STARTED TO SHOW SIGNS OF RE-INFESTING. THIS ANIMAL SHOULD NOT BE USED IN A BREEDING PROGRAM, AS RED MANGE IS HEREDITARY!!

Posted by cripple creek on 04-15-2012 05:15 AM:

if you know its pure mange,

I have used burnt motor oil and sulfur mixed to look like molasses and butter and put on every other day for about a week and then see how it turns out. Been doing this since the sixties. never failed to fix the problem, but you have to know what it looks like, an allergies problem wont respond to it.. some dogs are allergic to grass believe it or not and some other willd grasses. rare but true. seen it. and it can be genetically passed down as well.
a vet visit with a scrap will confirm mange and then you can pass up the high dollar shampoos and go with the cheap fix that will work twice as fast.

I had one with what sounds like the same problem, all I did was start her on ivomec 1/10cc per 10lb. Within a week or two after just one dose it healed up, takes a while for the hair to grow back, nustock would help with that. I've never had a problem since I started giving the ivomec monthly.
