We went to Gatlinbug on our honeymoon back in 1998. Be sure and make a run through Cade's Cove. A lot of wildlife, deer, bear and turkey.

The Dixie Stampede Dinner Theatre in Pigeon Forge is a good place to go and the Comedy Barn in Pigeon forge is one of the best shows to see. I live 1-hour from Gatlinburg and I have been there a lot.

Old Mill

Eat at the Old Mill located at red light number 7 or 8???? On Old Mill Road good place to eat....in Pigeon Forge. Also make sure to bring a can of pepper spray while visiting Gatlinburg....make sure to spray when they get within 4 feet..... they have a bad habit of getting inside your body space. I'm talking about the annoying Bronx transplants they have on the streets trying to sell 'Time Shares'. It's to bad Tennessee can't have a hunting season on them. It would make the Gatlinburg area so much more beautiful.

You would think a money maker like Gatlinburg would make that kind of stuff illegal. You would think they would want to make your trip as pleasant as possible so you will go back. Thats alright thou if they get pushy with me Ill spout off some cuss words they havent ever heard of in New York.

LOL!!! I've complained to the tourist commission before. It's located at the visitors station in Gatlinburg. They masquerade as a tourism business... offer free tickets so on and so forth. Please don't fall for the crap they'll call your house til the end of time. I'd rather pay $10-$20 for a ticket and keep all my personal info personal. I'm crazy like that.

I agree Cades Cove is a must. As far a eating goes The Wife a I always make a trip to Calhouns, It's a place with a big water wheel on the end of town going into the Great Smokey Mountains National park, try the ribs with beans and cole slaw they can't be beat in my book.

Thanks for the info keep it coming. Once you get down there is it pretty easy to navigate around and find stuff or is it easy to get lost and turned around?

Posted by Chris Herring on 10-03-2009 09:07 PM:

Comedy Barn, Dixie Stampede, Cades Cove, eat at Calhouns and Old Mill....
The only thing I am gonna add is maybe plan some time to hike the walking trails in the national park, they are nice. If you go to the park visitor center located inside the park they have a guided tour to a small waterfall that is fun...another thing we have done is horseback rides in the National Park, beautiful but no so hard on the legs...

I agree with everyone else, but would ad Huck Finns resteraunt in Pigeon Forge. All you can eat catfish ,and the beans, cornbread, pickles, onion is free. They also have frog leggs, I don't know what else that is as far on the menu as I have made it..

We went there on our honeymoon and just love it, been back several times. The only thing I don't like about Gatlinburg is there is no parking. We stayed in a cabin and drove to the visitor center and rode a shuttle to Gatlinburg. The old mill is great. We spend most of our time at Cades cove and hiking on the trails. It is a great place. Those time share salesman are no fun though

I have a bad feeling me and these time share salesman are going to have some serious conversations real quick.

Their not all that hard to deal with, we just say not interested and keep walking. But the keep walking is the important part because if they can get you to stop they are going to throw that sales pitch on you.

I live about 18 miles north of Gatlinburg. You shouldn't have any trouble getting lost. When I was in high school, me and my renegade buddies spent most saturday nights in Gatlinburg, hunting out of state girls. A great time was had by all! If you like to fish, you can catch plenty of trout right in the middle of the city. ?You can find some very good fly fishing all over the Smokey Mountians. Have fun on your honeymoon!

Don't worry about the timeshare people, just do not make eye contact and keep walking. I have been to several timeshare presentations, Gatlinburg, Myrtle Beach, Las Vegas, they are just trying to make a living and every one I have been to turned out great for me.A couple were high pressure but you just have to stick to your guns as timeshares are a really bad investment and a terrible product! If you are going to a show such as the Dixie Stampede, be prepared to pay about $40 for an adult ticket. Way overpriced and those horses "stink" the place up.
A couple of the timeshares I went to actually paid cash and it was an easy $75 for two hours of time with no taxes even!!
Where else you going to make that kind of easy money?
Add a couple of kids to the Stampede and you can easily be up to $125.00!!! And always require more in return for attending a timeshare than what they are initially offering, they love to bargain!
Some require a deposit that you get back when you attend but that is because they can only "book" so many people and they do not want a bunch of people just not showing up if they change their mind and have all those empty seats! I understand it totally.
Never really understood peoples contempt for the timeshare sellers, if you ARE going to see a couple of shows and have the time to kill to go to a presentation, you can save a crap load of money if you haggle a little!
Just ignore the pressure and do not get sucked in to a bad product and enjoy your shows at the timeshare peoples cost!

I would like to see a dixie stampede ticket for $20!I guess some of the smaller scale stuff may be that cheap but if you are going to sit through a timeshare, go for the gusto and require the "expensive" shows where they actually feed you as well!
To the original poster, never ever give them your actual phone number unless you are genuinely interested in their product. (which you shouldnt be) You can even give a fake address if you wish but I could not imagine giving someone my personal info if I knew going into it that I was not going to buy something!
