collars

I use collars from L L Electronics, they have a good strong signal and are pretty tough. Service when needed was excellent.

Marshall Lighted Collars

Just got 2 of them about a month ago and so far so good. I haven't seen anything that could even compare to them. Spend the extra 50 bucks and get something that you will be happy with!

Johnson

been using them for years

dependable collars and dependable service
they usually run the collars on sale during the year also

I have tried others and come back to Johnson to stay
I will use them as long as they stay in the business

I realize there are several good companies
I use Wildlife trackers and like them
I have a very close friend that works for them and he is top shelf as is their products

i have two of them in their service department now. both of which i bought this year and both quit working after about 20 hunted with them. LL has had the for over a month and i just got off the phone and they told me im next in line. which would have been great except they said the same exact thing the other two times i called.
im not happy with them at all. they do have a decent signal when they work though.

this is just my experiance.

Back a few years ago, Wildlife sent me a special collar to try. I did some testing and the average Johnson was still the best. They have a longer range and they beep faster, which inables you to find them quicker. I like the Rats also, but they don't have as good range.

haven't used to many different kinds but i know my quick track beats my wildlife by a llllloooooooooooooooonnnnnnnngggggg way. Nothing wrong with the wildlife its got enough range for around here.

I am going to rock the boat a little

I haven't tried them all, but here are the ones I have tried.
1. Tracker Strike: Nice cheap collar, but doesn't have the turbo needed if the dog gets out of the pocket.
2. L&L: Gets the job done, about the same range as Strike, but the frequency drift was bad. Had to use 3 spots on memory on the receiver, depending on the temperature.
3. Tracker Intello: Really like the collar. Good long range and what I like the best, is the signal is very easy to calulate the distance. The down side is using 2 $8 batteries.
4. Marshall: I have one that is lighted and one that is not. Hard signal, to the point it is harder to calulate the distance than the Intello. The lights on the collar eat batteries. I have went through 3 sets of good AAs, already this season.

My opinion is that if it were not for the $16 to load the Intello, it would be my first pick. I am on the fence divided between it and the Marshall. The final range of both is almost identical.

I agree with Tim. The strikes just dont have the range , but are OK if the dogs are fairly close. I like the Intellos also. They are strong and easy to locate , but like Tim said , the batteries are high priced. i have been using Intellos for 3 years and no problems except a chewed off antena. A buddy of mine has the Marshall's and they seem to be good also.

One of the Intellos I have has one broken antenna right where the zip strip holds it to the collar. Can't see any reduction in signal that before. If I didn't quite make sense about calculating distance with the Intello. The signal to the receiver is very easy to determine the distance. Example: a reading of 3- 100-125 yards. 4-150-250. 5 300 out to a quarter. 6 etc, out to 9 at 4-5 miles. The Marshall with give me a 3 from 100 to 400, 4 out farther, then from 6-9 is similar to the Intello. The Intello will go toe to toe with the Marshall out to the fringe, but is much easier to calculate distances in the 3/4 mile or less range.

I Just bought a Tracker Complete receiver

I have 2 marshall lighted collars( dont use the light much, but sure are nice when starting young dogs or silent trash runners) The range cant be beat IMO, I also have 2 strike collars with new batterys They arent bad if they are within a few miles. I have played with masrhalls and picked up a good signal At 12 miles as the crow flys.

Thats good information Tim. I have done almost exactly that same thing with mine also. Iv notcied when Im 3 on the reciever , its time to shine the light because the dog is comming in or pretty close by. It takes some practice , but you can really get good at determining not only direction , but also distance and be accurate at it.

I tested the intello. I hung it on a fence post and drove roughly 9 miles before the signal became hard to detect. It was fairly flat ground and the collar and I were both on hill tops ,but 9 miles is pretty good service. Its about half that distance in the hills though.

Here is a link to the cheapest place I have found to buy 3.6 v batteries. I bought 6 and they were strong ,fresh and mailed fast and were garanteed to be dated less than 1 year old. I was pleased with what I recieved. They are $ 3.95 each , much less than I have seen locally priced.

I have 2 intello's and a new quick track I use with a quick track 6000 reciever.

I keep one of the intellos out on loan to guys who are saving to buy there own system, so I can at least find there dog If something goes wrong.

I use the quick track most of the time and the intello is a back up incase I happen to be hunting a pup too or the rare night I hunt a pair of dogs.

I like all 3, but just trust the quick track more. When Loose goes out thats the only collar he wears. If we hunt anybody with him, they get the other collar.

I used Wildlife for awhile too and couldnt realy find a hole in them. If I were to buy a used collar for another backup it would be a wildlife. Pretty good compremise between range and ease of battery changing to me.

If I were to buy another new collar it would be a Johnson. There only an hour or so away from me and this time of year you can pick up a new collar for around $100. They have plenty of range and seem to stand up to heavy hunting pretty good.
