I walk with Mack not Wick!!!
A friend of mine owned a female B&T named Cheyenne out of Ken Duncans kennels and she was second to none around here on bears and cats.ANYONE would have been proud to own her.I don't believe she was ever coon hunted in her life.If the snow was crappy it didn't make any difference, put her on the box and she would rig a lion. She was a strike and start dog deluxe on bears and gritty. Not the grittiest but she got chewed on many ,many times by bears and always went back for more. She got cancer and died last year.I think she was possibly a once in a lifetime type dog.
In my young hunting career I have hunted with only one outstanding dog that I think is worth mentioning. He was a walker dog by the name of Bohdi. Bodhi was a bobcat wizard. Hands down once in a lifetime bobcat dog. He would hunt bobs, lions, bears and coons, but was not a bear or coon dog. He could rig and strike and all that and would bump a ride from a deer to a bobcat tree. He was smart, trashy and fast. The first winter I meet Bodhi he had caught 34 bobcats the one season, all locally. No one has caught that many in my area. He was the sire to 3 of our dogs and while mine can catch bobcat, they just aren't quite at the same level. I know that he is being missed this cat season.

Hey hellcat i have not hunted with that many breeds other than english. I can only tell about my local experience.
Walker- John Flowers clyde dog
Blk-n-tan- Ron Hudson hank dog
Bluetick- Cory Thoreson- dutch dog
These are all coon dogs but they are what I measure the other breeds by. I have oly hunted with a couple red dogs and they did not do much to impress me. I am not impartial to owning one of them if I ever find a good one that suites me. I have one uncle that all he had was redbones and one that had all black-n-tans, but I guess that I like english the best. Although any dog that trees fur for me has a home regardless of breed.

I HAVE BEEN HUNTING ENGLISH DOGS FOR THE PAST 17 YEARS AND BEFOR THAT HUNTED BLACK AND TANS BUT THE SINGLE BEST HOUND I EVER HUNTED WITH WAS A WALKER DOG BY THE NAME OF NOLICHUCKEY MADE CHASE. CHASE WAS OWNED BY A GOOD FRIEND OF MINE WHO RAISED HIM AND KEPT HIM UNTILL HE WAS 4 YEARS OLD. HE SIMPLY COULD'NT TURN DOWN THE LARGE AMOUNT OF MONEY HE GOT OUT OF THE DOG. HE WAS THE SMARTEST DOG I EVER SEEN. YOU COULD COON HUNT HIM AND BEAR HUNT HIM AND IT SEEMED HE KNEW WHAT YOU WERE HUNTING. I TRY AND KEEP A RECORD OF THE DOGS I HUNT AND HUNT WITH WHILE COON HUNTING AND AFTER SEEING THIS POST I DUG OUT THE PAGE ON OLE CHASE. BETWEEN THE AGE OF 2 AND 4 I HUNTED WITH HIM 172 NIGHTS. IN THOSE NIGHTS HE MADE 407 TREES. 25 WERE DENS, 355 HAD COONS IN THEM AND NO COON WAS FOUND IN THE OTHER 27. IF YOU DISREGARD THE DENS AND COUNT TREES WITH COONS VRS. TREES WITH OUT, I BELIEVE THAT IS AROUND 93% ACCURACY AND MORE THAN LIKELY MOST OF THOSE DENS WOULD OF HAD A COON ALSO WHICH WOULD OF UPED THE % A LITTLE MORE. HE WAS WITHOUT A DOUBT THE BEST TRACK DOG I EVER SEEN. HE COULD BLISTER AN OLD FEEDER TRACK THAT MOST OTHERS COULD'NT HARDLY EVEN RUN. HE WAS EVEN HUNTED IN A FEW COMPETION HUNTS. 9 TO BE EXACT AND HE WON HIS CAST IN 7 OF THOSE. NEVER DID GET A FIRST PLACE WIN TO BECOME A NITECH THOUGH. HE HAD 4 SECOND PLACE WINS 2 THIRD AND 1 FOURTH. NOW WITH THAT SAID WHEN HE WAS SOLD FOR A VERY LARGE AMOUNT OF MONEY IT WAS TO A BEAR HUNTER. HE WAS PROBABLY A BETTER BEAR DOG THAN COON DOG. IT WAS UNBELIEVABLE HOW HE COULD TAKE A VERY COLD BEAR TRACK AND LEAVE HERE WITH IT. SERIOUSLY HE WOULD MAKE GOOD TRAIL DOGS LOOK STUPID. HE WAS DEFINETELY A ONCE IN A LIFETIME HOUND AND I REALLY HATED TO SEE MY BUDDY SELL HIM. HE WAS OUT OF A NITECH FEMALE THAT WAS FINELY RIVER BRED AND HIS SIRE WAS OUT OF GRNITECH NOCTURNAL NAILOR.
BOBBY
Best walker - NTCH PKC CH TRI COUNTY DRIVE

best English would be between two brothers, Cadilac Jack or Jammin Jim( BLUE BOY TEN), I haven't ever seen a decent redbone, Blackantan was Gus owned by Troy Gordon in Salem Orgeon coon and beardog, walker was a dog out of gold creek mundo named Levi, he was a good rascal, I've seen 4 good bluedogs and owned one of those, Troy Sheffield owned two of the others and Gabe Winters the last one.
Plotts, I haven't ever seen a decent Plott on coon but I have a couple that work on biggame, they're just dogs that catch game but nothing special but seem to be typical of the breed.
I hunted with two unregistered dogs that was really special, one was full english and the other 1/8 fiest 1/8 bird dog 1/4 walker and 1/2 english from a female that was out of Mansell Jake
