hunting with airguns ?
is anyone out there hunting with an air gun? I figured I would give it a try I bought a Crossman Optimus .177 cal rated at 1200 fps. I was a little skeptical using one at first but lastnight I gave it a try. Now I have the thing sited in so that I can drive tacks at 25-30yards. I figured a well placed shot would be crucial. anyway my pup treed one and I took the gun in (farmer insist that I kill everyone I tree although I don't) and gave it a try. I lined up a head shot fired and quickly got ready for a follow up shot but when I looked up again the things was already doing the death wiggle and out he came deader than a door nail. This was a pretty good sized coon. Has anyone else been using one and what is your experience with them?

I have several air rifles. Any of the. 177 cal single cock 1000+ fps rifles will drop coons. My go to air gun is a custom crossman 2240 that sends a 22 cal pellet at 800fps. Its extremely accurate and for what it cost to shoot i put 1000's of rounds thru it. I will shoot squirrels at 50yds all day. It has a supressor on it and the sound of the pellet hitting a skull is several times louder than the gun. I can shoot it in the house. Safely. Its been a pleasure to own. There are plenty of more powerfull air guns. And i could make this one shoot over 1000 fps if i needed. But it works for me. If i had to do it all again. Id buy the murrauder pistol and be done with it. It will nock out coon. It will even dispatch yotes in a trap or at a bay.
