NC HB 930 Action needed

NEWS ALERT: House Bill #930 suddenly calendared for hearing on Wednesday, 5/8/13, to be heard before the NC House Judiciary B Committee. We have only ONE DAY to remind legislators about the many problems with this bill.

HB#930 is the latest “puppy mill” bill pushed by animal rights activists. North Carolina has excellent laws against animal cruelty. We do not need more laws. The bill sponsors claim to have included a hunting dog exemption, but it is useless and ineffectual. This bill is poison!

Please contact the following members of the Judiciary B Committee ASAP and ask them to vote NO on House Bill #930:

Puppy Mill Bill HB#930 has passed the NC House Judiciary B Committee.

Today in committee, we were able to strengthen the language to protect us by having a real exemption for hunting dogs. (Page 1, lines 23 and 24).

Thanks to Representative Paul Stam for reducing the penalty. (Page 2, lines 12 and 13).

HB#930 will go to the full House for a vote. If it passes the House, it must go to the Senate for a parallel journey of committee meetings and a full vote in the Senate.

The language is not as bad as it was, but we are not safe from further amendments. WRAL reports the bill has been “watered down” considerably. This is a good thing for us, but we continue to work to defeat the bill.
