Owner returned dog without registering

Hi Sara! In March, we sold a dog to a potential show home. Unfortunately, the owner has decided not to show him, and has returned him to us. He has not been permanently registered with UKC, but he has been litter registered.

Here is the problem that we have: we had the application for permanent registration in our possession, but she had already signed it. (Although she was not interested in showing UKC, she had not been opposed to us sending in his registration and showing him in UKC for her, with one of us as co-owner.) Nothing else was filled out on the back of the registration slip.

Because we already have 2 males, we decided to place this puppy with another family. They want to register him with UKC. Can we simply cross out her name and have them fill out the slip in their name? Or is there another form that we have to get before he can be registered in UKC? Thanks!

No. That will cause an alteration and any alterations make the certificate void. What your new owners will need to do is download the Application To Re-Establish a Cancelled Record. Have them send that and the Registration Certificate and $20 to get the dog registered. If you'd like to give them a clean Bill of Sale, draw a big "X" through the Bill of Sale and send it to us with $16.00 and a small note stating the dog was returned to you and you want permanent papers. This is the nicest way to do it because it removes any doubt. We make this available to breeders only.
