My 12yr old Aussie has this. My vet says the surgery probably won't help. He said Thyroid problems can cause it.I just soak his food, it keeps him from choking on it. When his quality of life is being compromised I will then have to make the hard choice of euthanasia. I couldn't put him through surgery unless I felt certain it would help. It's been about a year since he has been diagnosed. As I understand it is a slow process. His activity level has droppped alot, but he is 12. Good Luck
