How far is too far???

How far will you let a dog be off a tree before minusing it on a nite hunt?I know everyone wants that bug eyed, toe nails dug into the bark tree dog.Let's face it though,a lot of dogs will meet you off the tree.I have seen dogs that will tree good and never leave but they need to get down off the tree for some reason to reassure themself of the tree they are on and will make little loops off the tree and go back with out saying a word.I have seen dogs get down off just as you arrive and have their nose down and jump right back on the tree. With this in mind when I judge a cast I try to be fair with the dogs treeing. If while going into a tree I can hear the dogs treeing and I know they are there I will not fault or minus them for being off the tree a little as long as they go right back and continue treeing. On the other hand if I don't hear a particular dog treeing that has been treed I remind the handler as we are going to the tree I don't hear his dog and if his dog is not under the tree when we get there it will be getting minused.I don't use the canopy or yardage .Just common sense.I've had guys get mad because they want me to minus a dog for coming off the tree a little bit.I always tell the complainer that the dog never quit treeing the whole time we were going to the tree and it never opened off the tree and refuse to.Unless we get an overiding majority of course.I have been on casts that others are judging and I tell you your dog better not even step a couple feet from the tree or they will minus you. Just wanting some opinions. Am I being to lean or are those other guys being to harsh?

The rule says a dog can come off a tree , a short distance , and meet handler but must go back and tree to the satisfaction of the judge.
If I'm the judge , that's exactly what he can do. ONCE.
