"perfection" for HOUNDnHEVEN
Hey, James.... here's a couple of good ones for ya.
First- we decided to get some fish for the Dogs wading pool, to keep the algae down...WELL-As much as I am a SOUTHERNER at heart...I AM indeed a NORTHERNER! It would probably be a good idea, and much more humane to wait for SUMMER next time...the water temps still get kinda low... However, the chickens enjoyed the meal of little dead or dying bait fish Oops! Wyatt ws too smart to try to hunt them...he KNOWS we want to bath him some year. Webster thought they looked cool for a second and Gunner didn't notice them. NOW, I will have you know...It used to be my JOB to care for my fathers fish. He raised Koi (japanese colored carp) in 75,000 gallons of ponds and tanks. It was my job to keep them alive, hand breed them, cull them and pick the BIG STARS... And I was good at it, and I KNOW how to care for fish. Now that I live with head injury I do not THINK before I do stuff! DUH!
SO- I'm also thinking I'm trying to get into the wrong type of hunting! Webster was restless last night so I decided to go out for a walk, Bob and the boys were gone.... so it was about dusk, we went down the street a ways and he was having a ball following his nose. We turned and headed home and he started to get excited about what he smelled... he stayed quiet as a mouse but ws REAL happy and wiggling his tail and body.... and he entered the woods across the st the ONE place I saw a coon cross the road more than a month ago now. I was so excited! I thought maybe it was back so off we went...thru the poison ivy... I'm wearing my KEDS low top sneakers... black with flames Ulgly AND useless....I'm wacking into branches but creeping along with Webster Quietly... we're getting to the little wetlands..IN THOSE useless sneakers and Webster starts STALKING, like a cat or a Panther- dark with his yellowish eyes.... and we creep up tooooooo.......
A pair of mallard ducks, Quack and Jack.... someone in the neighborhood raised them so they come to my house for scratch at times.... I could have died laughing! I have about three scratches on my left cheek, a bruise on my left arm and we were DUCK TRAILING! So we get back home and I put him in the pen, cause he never did pee and he spent his time running and playing and ended by stalking a sparrow totally silently for five minutes and of Course it flew off when he was five feet away and sprang at it! I have a Bird huntiing, dead silent Black and Tan coonhound!
So, on MY Merry road to perfection.... we have taken just a wee bit of a detour! AND this evening the chickens were proudly carrying around a half a dead bunny! I'm just NEVER gonna get a coon here! Will be too busy hunting baitfish, bunnies and birdies!
So, James.... as you laugh yourself silly picturing me, 4 '11" 110 lbs or so- beig dragged thru the poison ivy woods to wetlands in sneakers by a BIG STUPID cute DUMB Duck hunting black and tan coonhound.... you can know we'll never go hungry here! Our chickens will bring us home rabbit to eat
You see why I said I was in a good mood? I'm still laughing at myself now!
Have a GOOD night and you forget what the other kids say. Stay true to you! You know who you want to be, don't let anyone else ruin your path!
Your friend, Heather

Websters wet adventures....
...here ya go- yesterday, It was raining pretty good. Webster was being a pill, again... so we went for another walk. This time I was dressed properly in my Bogs and waterproof overpants. We went into the woods from a slightly different area... more poison ivy and less path.... It is VERY hard to go thru with a dog on leash! Pain in the neck!!!! We came up to some areas where there was standing water..and Webster won't go thru the Puddles at our gates... so I decided to do a lesson. I walked into the water it was bout ten inches....Webster balked, face down butt up.he wasn't budging. I decided to quit...he's not Going to hunt...so why bother? We turned right and he smelled Something... went right thru the water on his own! Yay! We were coated with muck and this time I got twacked pretty good on my right cheek! We went further in than I've gone alone before, it was so still with the rain,It was really beautiful! Quack and Jack were nowhere to be seen. Something had been grubbing around for acorns...could have been the turkeys. We had a great time and his lesson was learned! Water doesnt bite.
Went back in today, again a different route. We zigzagged thru the wet and muck and water there were large tracks looked like horse but Had to be deer????? Seemed like big hooves but, could have been the wetness. Webster was fascinated! We went back past the neighbors houses and circled back (Before I got LOST!) on our way back we DID find Jack and QUack, walked right thru the pool they were in and were ignored!
Incase your worried that Webster is just a birddog... he did do some furchasing today As I was Grooming TopGun the fur was Flying (greyhound fur is very soft and light weight) and Big white clumps were flying all over.... Webster was Leaping in the air to get them...he was Covered with White fur! He is a dummy. He ate ALL the fur he "caught".
My lower back, butt and upper legs are SO sore.. being pulled on leash by a big unruly pup thru underbrush, when you re an old fart, out of shape...in slippery mud is kinda dumb. But- we have been having a great time! Wyatt has smelled every inch of Webster when we get back! Bob wont be able to get Wyatt out this weekend since he is driving to MD with Dylan to pick up Richard at college.
So, james... Webster's big adventures in the wild wet world.... probably Muddier than what most akc showdog types get to do!
Hope you get out with your dog soon, and get to do some actual hunting!
Make sure you're not wearing lowtop sneakers
Heather
lol i think thats the greatest lol yea when i take him out agian i wont go near water or anything lol i take boots anyways lol

Hey WiseGuy!
I told you... I don't think before i Leap as well as I used to!
Other than being sore and such... It's been a blast...he is the goofiest mutt! He really WANTS to folloow his nose...just has NO clue what to follow..and we got wrapped around EVERYTHING! I DO NOT get poison ivy...the boys DO.... I keep wondering if Webster brings it in all over himself? The boys will KILL ME!
Only problem with this is... Webster wants to go everyday now. I can't go TOO far because the land owners (my friends)... tend to be out Shootin things..... and I will be bored with our small loop soon! We dirtbike out there and have no problem getting shot....because of the noise.... I wear blaze orange or a bright red coat so I SHOULD be ok...
I am wicked sore though! I used to be such an athelete!
I'l get stronger......
Thanks for not Laughing TOOOOO hard! Heather
well i have the 4 weller thats all i need lol

Black Knight,
I'm having a blast with this big dumb pup! He is trying new stuf and is like a Little itty bitty pup...but he's gotta be close to 90 lbs now! He was going to try to cross the water on a fallen tree...I weighed the pros and cons and figured...if he tried to cross it...he'd fall and impale himslef on a limb and I would have to CALL for help to carry him out to the road... and the vet bills, with MY luck.... I DO look forawrd to Actually hunting agaon someday, on BIG land, NO leashes and a REAL coondawg!
As for You0 hound in heven.... My four wheeler can't make it thru most of the paths over there anymore! The brush has crept in from two years off. NOTHING better than taking the quad thru there and getting to the apple orchards and blasting around on a summer day!!!!!! Good to have friends with land! AND, friends who let us Ride there!!!! Most wont.
I do have aLOT of fun laughing at myself! I HAVE to, I do the dumbest things sometimes.... at least Webster is a GOOD fit! Heather
Heather it almost summer time so you don't need the muck boot or waders now. old sneakers and cut off shorts are all you need. As for webster pulling get a small switch with leaves on and swat him when he pulls. It wont hurt but will be real annoying and he will get the hint. If I can't hold on to the leash with one finger someones going to get some correction. If your going to keep going through the woods go ahead and get a training collar with the recall buzzer on it. After a little training around the house he'll get the idea of comming back to you off the leash esp when he hears the little beep.
Thanks Chad!
Summer... can't wait! If I wore shorts out there... I'd be covered with skeeter bites....scratches and worse lumps bumps and bruises! Kinda like my face right now Can't do Off leash...leash law in Wrentham. Also it's my sons "pup"... and it's close to road, where the commuters from RI SWERVE AT us!!!! so if he got to the road... they'd hit him on purpose and I'd end up in jail... for what I'd do to the vehicle..... It's bad enough ON leash on the road... where he heels like a pro! When we get a hunting hound... it'll be thoroughly trained! Won't be able tohunt this area...no land. The farm(the Big Apple) where I'm walking with Webster, is 250 or 350 acres, even if we got permission to hunt it (which we could, they're good friends).... there's NO coon. Seen one in over five years.(distemper). I'm just out there having some fun with the doofus, getting myself back in better shape (I was pretty badly injured in a collision between my truck and a dumptruck in 97...which is why I have so much "free time". For Webster it's just letting him be a hound and using his big nose.
Thanks for not laughing too hard at my follies.I laugh at myslef plenty but the best is laughing at Webster... he is SO clumbsy. He's really very smart but just physically Dumb! He was quite the gift, my son was lucky as can be. NOW, if he had been looking for a Coondawg...HAHAHA!
Thanks for the advice! We'll be asking for plenty once we get a Real hound and start hunting!
Take care over there, Heather
Just remember to have fun I don't think I'm the first one on here that had a possum killing, deer running, lying worhtless hound as there first coondog. I kept that sucker for 11 yrs and had a lot of fun with him.
Chad...
the saddest thing is....my bluetick Wyatt is a coondawg....
However, I made a promise to the boys that he was RETIRED.... Luckily he IS happy with his life here. Kills me to hear him out there....and to know we'll never be able to find a coonhound like him. Maybe it'll be abetter hound but I love his looks SO much!
Besides...who knows what my hubby will fall for? In the mean time Webster is very fun and funny... today I took him for his walk on the road....I'm so sore I probably looked like I was 80 years old. He had NO interest in going in the woods today either, don't know if he was reading me or there was just nothing good to smell? When I took my old greyhound out after for his walk he was doing lots of winding and no smelling on the ground. Must have been a quiet night.
The hawks, falcons and turkey vultures have been very active around here. I imagine you guys see lots of birds of prey there???? Right? I wish we had more wildlife around still, the development here in MA is awful. Oh well, just means when Bob and I DO get our won real, working coonhound we'l have the travel to hunt. We'll manage.
Thanks for your kinds words... I'm sure what ever we get to hunt with will be so uncompetitive, and imperfect it'll bring us much plesure and amusement. Being headinjured gave me a very different view of life. I'm not a perfectionist anymore... so if we run a few possum.... I'll learn how to cookem.
I hope you'll be coming home soon, those kids of yours are Cherubs! They'll be psyched to have you home! Take care, Heather
hey you there? hows the Wyatt doing today i went to the movie today and i passed out lol and my got so dizzy cause it was an imax *sick*

HAHAHA! I'm Here!
I would have upchucked! Wyatt is good. He was SO loud today! I thought the neighbors would finally decide they didn't like him. I could hear him while I was out with Webster. There is something driving him nuts with scent in their pen...it could just be squirrels, it's Probably the feral cats.... He follows the scent in cirlcles and zigzags...Webster thinks HE's a dummy! Bob and Dylan just left for MD to get Richard from college...first time Bob will be going both ways without picking up a coonhound for transport. Dylan's psyched, he's never been to NY, NJ, MD...He has been to PA. The dogs'll be a pain without them here! Right now Webster and Wyatt are taking up 2/3 of the sectional sofa! Topgun tried barking in their faces to get them off and Neither of them even woke at all! They do NOT want to lose their places! SPOILED!
How was school? Better?
Heather I love to see that someone else has to spoile their dogs. Every time I walk I am always walking one a dogsd and they yelp ya think that they would learn. But guess that comes along with spoiling. Keep up the good work and also our b/t Bubba is starting out in the woods good and he is 14 months. We live in town and thy can have pretty loud drawn out ohhhhhhhooooo;s. Than God for barking collars. do not need them often but every now and then LOL asee ya later

Black Knight..
... The greyhound FINALLY barked enough to get ME off the sofa! He got the blueticks spot, the bluetick got mine! Webster is still comatose...nothing sleeps like a hound!
My husband, Bob, was VERY worried that tonight I WOULD have to carry Gunner up to bed (BIG greyhound 87 lbs), Bob CARRIES him up every night.....he's had BAD leg injuries... I had to remind Bob that Topgun RUNS up the staris alone when Bob is not home ! (unless he has a current injury). For instance.... today.... I had him inside with me and ran up to do something upstairs...Gunner followed me right up... twice! My poor husband... he will NOT go up the stairs if HE is here! HAHAHAHAHA!
Glad Bubba is starting out well in the woods. Must be real satisfying to train them! I used to love to do it with the horses...now I'm not sure I could deal with the frustration in Myself....trying to train something. TOugh enough with the three teenage BOYS!
The chickens are real spoiled too... the cats too... I can't help it! The KIDS are NOT spoiled.... since spoiled kids become rotten adults! Bob DOES spoil Me too!
Lol! Heather
lol good one heather

It got worse, James!
I was sitting on the floor in front of Wyatt and he kept kicking me in the head.... cause my hair was tickling the pad of his foot! He kicked me hard enough to hurt!
He's still got MY seat...but I got Brandons! Now Gunner is between Brandon and me...and Br can't stop patting him... if he moves his hand off him he does a nasty sharp greyhound bark! Usually Dyl sits with him at this hour and pats him! Hahahahaha! The routine! Poor Br. He is watchingtotal garbage on tv... on VH1.... I figure if he's going to pacify Gunner I can put up with junk tv... BORING!
At nine thrity or so the dogs go out for the last time today. Usually I sit in here and Listen to Wyatt let loose. When the door opens, he takes a BIG breath and then just lets loose, every single night. Most nights he chops the whole way out, ocasional bawl....with little Webster trying to copy him... he sounds just like tarzan! Poor thing. I think Bob usually howls all the way out with them. I have to maintain my dignity... I will silently get dragged out there... Or perhaps I'll make Br take the big boys and I'll take TopGun? Hm....
so how was you day ?lol i went to town and some people were picking on me so i figured i would come to you.

they musta been bored.
Had nothing fun to do. Had a dreary drizzley day here. I was real happy to have it dry enough to walk the dogs! The daily walking and hiking has been good for Webster. He is real tired out! The other thing I HAVE to do with him is play hide and seek, tag and keep away.... I grab his stuffie or a ball and mke a fool of myself running away....then I let him have it and he does the same thing.... On the rainy days it's a chore...on the nice days I love it. He also did a pup's gone wild thing in the house.... We have NO space and LOTS of furniture and he ran like a moron running into things....jumping over things and avoiding Gunners snapping teeth and snarls.... So , it was not boring! Then I picked up Dyl from band practice... went off to BJs (WEBSTER JUST FELL OFF THE SOFA! ROFL!!!!)..stocked up on supplies for the college boy. He'll spend most of the summer in Boston with friends...but I need to have food for when he's here...he's a vegetarian..so it's hard to feed him.
SO...tell me more about YOUR day!
