What does everyone feel ought to be one of the best crosses of 2015? Anyone got their eye on something special to come from a cross? Post a ped and lets see those special crosses to watch for!

Don't know if they will make it but the planning, time and money was spent in hopes there would be a special one. Odds are always low but we took our shot, only time will tell.

Wow, over 150 people have viewed this thread and only 1 cross in 2015 that someone believes to be special. The future is not looking good for Blue I take it.

Silver ch Grnite Ch Buffalo Creek to tuff Betty

Josh Neff is planning on breeding Buffalo Creek Big time Betty to Ballz Rush Creek Tuff Luck!!
This will be a half brother sister cross off the late great Betty.
Tuff is sired by Gauge ( jet 8 x Hooker) and Betty is also Gauges grand dam. So triple Betty!
Big time Betty is sired by Big Time Stylish Blu Pete... my expectations are high for this cross....
Give our buddy Pat a call and quiz him on old Betty. I just got Tuff and so far he is showing to be all coon dog! Big time Betty as well as Tuff will be in some hunts this year!!!!

Three Special 2015 Crosses

I hope that every cross that was made in 2015 proves to be special to the people that made them. I know of three that were made that qualify as "special" to me. The 1st one did not produce any pups but will be repeated as soon as possible in 2016. Jet 9 was bred to Gr Nt Ch Joleen (line bred Jet), this was the 3rd time this cross had been made. The 2nd one was Jet 5 to Gr Nt Ch I Love Lucy (Double Jet 6 Again) and produced 9 healthy pups who have been distributed to hunters. The 3rd was Jet 10 to Gr Nt Ch All Jazzed Up (6 Again X Tree Slammin Lady)-these pups are due very soon. Cory Carlson has been instrumental in making all this possible. What was the criteria? We had to use outstanding coon hounds from proven crosses. They had to be line bred from the same line. They had to be proven reproducers prior to being bred this time. In short-we tried to stack the deck from a genetic stand point so that the pups from these crosses will make solid hounds and be capable reproducers themselves and not in just the 1st generation. The pups will also be socialized and exposed to training on an individual basis as well as collectively to give them every chance. Good luck with the crosses you made in 2015. CW

This is a great post cwbluebio....if you will indulge me in some good coon dog conversation I would be appreciative.
When making these crosses cwbluebio, were you able to hunt with the Sire and the Dam? Learning each dogs strengths and weaknesses to find the right cross to compliment each dog? or was the idea on making the crosses based on papers and taking the risk to not double up on a negative trait/fault in hopes of doubling up on a strong desired trait that you guys are really trying to either put in the pups or bring out in future crosses from the pups that this cross creates? basically is the juice worth the squeeze. Also, why the strong line breeding in this particular Jet line? Was an outcross considered and for whatever reason decided to keep it line bred?

Happy to answer your questions. I have hunted with all six of the dogs used in the crosses and owned most of them and many of their ancestors. I did not have enough room to list the pedigrees. EVERY consideration was made in breeding each pair. I love the different lines of Blueticks. I am vastly more familiar with these Jet bred dogs and how they perform and what they have produced. Jet V was collected in 1995-if the females from him prove themselves, as did the females from him in the past, this cross should prove valuable to us or any one from a different line crossing to one of these. The two prior crosses of Jet 9 to Joleen have produced outstanding results in each litter. Further Jet 10 to Ed's Lady has produced and All Jazzed Up and Lady are littermates. I Love Lucy was bred to my Jet II and this litter is looking real good. A wealth of winners and reproducers are in the pedigrees, most of which I am very familiar with. We will be looking for the good and the bad from these, making our future selections based on their performances not on paper or just pedigrees. Each cross has the potential to be good, each cross has the potential to be bad. We have taken the risk. I hope this answers some of your questions. Thanks for asking and thanks for reading. Plus all pups will be DNA.
