-- scoring ? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=928384405)
scoring ?
3 dog cast. Dog A and B struck and treed. Dog C hasn't made a sound. Score dog A and B and lead away from the tree. Dog C strikes in before dogs A and B are cut. Does dog C open up for 100 or 25.
50 strike.

As Jim just said dog C goes in for 50. The reason being is that dog C cannot go in for 100 since two dogs are still on the lead, (thus not competing) for additional strike points. Since dogs A & B have already used up the 100 & 75 point positions, 50 points would be the next available and that is what dog C would go in for.

the way i read the question , dog A & B have been struck and treed without dog C saying a word.
he says the tree has been scored and they are being led away and then dog C strikes.
so in my mind dog C strikes in for 100.

Dogs hold their strike positions until recast. Dog will hold it's strike position until recast. In this case, since dogs A and B were not recast only the 3rd. strike was available. Therefor dog C strikes for 50.

Bob explained it well, 50 is correct.

Just in case someone asks, dogs A&B must be released to dog C and each will receive 25 points when they open.

Four dog cast would be 50 25

Pop, the way I understand it is that all dogs in the cast must be off leash and competing for strike before 100 strike is available. Since A and B are on the leash, they are not competing for strike and thus, 100 is not yet available.

The 50 strike points has already been taken by dog C, therefore only the 25 strike points are available to dogs A & B in this case.

Bob, you may want to refer back to the original post. C is the dog in question in this three-dog cast.![]()
You would be correct in a four-dog cast with three dogs scoring a tree.

Sorry bout that Bob. Thanks for setting me straight Riffecreek.
quote:dog c is the dog in question. 50 is the answer I was looking for. I wasn't 100% sure on the rule, but thanks guys for clearing it up for me. After reading some of the posts I do remember reading that all dogs had to be off the leash to compete for the strike. For some reason I was thinking at the time that the tree had to be scored and then it opened. I have read the rules so many times and still I get a little backwards on them from time to time.

C takes 50 and A and B are both eligible for 25.

The owner of dog C should have let them turn there dogs loose and struck his on the 3rd bark. He could have 100 then.
