Who's producing STAY PUT tree dogs that hold pressure????

Lookin for a female pup or older female. I have a male that is a huge big houndy type dog. He will split and stay but having trouble holding the 5. I know things to do to correct this but looking for a nice female to breed to. He's normally pretty good about having the grease but when you put 3 or 4 dogs down he will stay treed, it's just when he hears you walking to the other dogs he will pull off.

He only has 3 legs now and i feel bad and want a pup out of him. Haven't really hunted with many red dogs but from what I have seen, he's a good one. I just think to my self, what would he be like with 4 legs.

There sure are a lot of Redbone studs that are producing real tree dogs now. A lot more than in years past. Now you can look for tree and several more traits in a stud. In the past, you were hard pressed to just find the tree.

Really???

Not sure what the dfference is in a good tree hound of the past compared to the present?? Northern Hoss--Northern Chief--Red Ace--Timber Chopper--Wrighter V--Northern Joe VII -- Swing Red Rock. I went to my first tree that had 2 Redbones under a coon in 1956 and every year sence. Every Redbone I have fed carried blood of the above named hounds or a mix of a few of the above named.

The biggest difference I see is the one on the other end of the lead---Culling to day seems to be a lot harder than years ago for a lot of "hunters".

Your chain is only as good as your weakest link---Thank you to all that have kept the chain strong.

But I guess if you judge "PRESSURE TREE DOGS" by the "write-ups" in a nite hunt, some are DOING a better job than years past.

My past is 10-15 yrs ago. That may be a little different from your "past". And I am going by the percentage of pups in a litter that will tree. I am comparing the # of studs at one given time, not six or seven over 50 years. And I don't think that anyone is talking about write-ups or the kind of dogs that get them. Actually, I am not talking about competition dogs at all.

Posted by OLD TIMER on 07-21-2014 09:16 PM:

Is it the "studs" or do we have better "females"?

I guess I "maybe?" with you on judging a hound on it's own, not how it scores on a card. But I really wish that Bloodlines would list those "few" that get written up than the handlers, to me I'm looking to breed to "the hound" not it's owner???

THAT IS CHEAP FOR A YOUNG FEMALE THAT WILL TREE HER OWN COON AND HOLD PRESSURE,SOMEONE THAT WANTS TO WIN IN HUNTS AND RAISE PUPS LATER BETTER GET HER,THERE IS NOT THAT MANY FEMALES OUT THERE OUT OF RUSTY AND THEY DON'T COME UP FOR SALE OFTEN.
