persimmon trees

i hate them coons love them. why are they allways slick when my dog trees on them?

You ain't by yoursef on that. ha You know, I've hunted all of my life and I still can't tell you how those coon disapear. One of the long debated misteries.

a lot of coon scent left round persimmon trees. ive treed coons in them, but also treed slick in them to.lol

I had an older gentelman tell me a few years ago " Son if a dog wont tree on a persimmon tree he ain't worth having". It sure is aggrivating though.

im new to coon hunting going on my second year and the most i have learned about it is from my dogs and me hunting alone i took dogs out last nite and they treed on a emty tree and i just figured cause how dogs cold trail they treed on a cold tree i figured so them coon are sneaky huh/ lol\

Persimmon Trees

Fellow Hunters;; I venture to say== around 90% of Hunters under 30 yrs old, have not seen, what use to be called a [real good tree dog]. These type hounds are being breed out by competition hunters who want a fast tree dog.

Years back people hunted trail dogs that would tree where the track ended; These dogs knew the track they smelled and would stay with it until the end. While trailing if they lost the track, they searched until it was found. If it was only found going up a tree, then they barked up the tree and the game was there when the hunter arrived!!!

In one sense of the word== Dogs don't tree because the Coon went up== they tree because it didn't come down.

You guys whose dogs are Slick treeing on Persimmon trees, have modern dogs!!!!!

My Uncle is 73 years old. He has been hunting since he was 6 years old. He said he has been seeing dogs miss on persimmon trees as long as he can remember. He told me there have only been a couple(that he's seen) to move a track away from a persimmon tree. On a side note the persimmons are thick here this year. We also have muscadines left on the vines.

I've hunted hounds , cur , airedales , jack russells and running hounds all my life ... and I've seen some that would get fooled now and then by a hackberry tree or persimmon grove.


But , for a good hound it better be rare .... we've treed tons of coons in persimmons .

It's like the coon that crosses the road argument .. and folks that say they never seen a dog that can be dumped out and take the track ... etc , etc.

I wouldn't venture to guess why they slick on persimmons or can't run a hot coon out of the road ... but just as much as folks still feed the ones that can't .... I will keep feeding the ones that can !
