Pretty bored and just love reading this forum and stories. I've read about every thread on here. My question is has anyone ever just had a hound you thought wouldn't turn out and then one night they did and never look back? Or a coondog just lost interest in treeing coons and just milled around? Just tryin to drum up discussion

Had a female walker a couple years ago that I had thought several times about putting to sleep permantley but I kept hunting her then one night outta the blue she struck drove the track and treed. She hunted outstanding for about till she came in heat after her heat cycle took her hunting and she wouldt do crap even wouldnt let me catch her tried to fight other dogs dont know what happend or why but she went from crap to sugar to back to crap...

That's crazy Jeremy. That seems to be the great mystery as to what makes a consistent hound. Obviously it's genetic, but makes you wonder. Thanks for the reply

She was off a very good stud and dam. Never had one do like she did tho. Is it as hot there as here?

light switch

I had a female English that I bought from a guy near me.She was 14 or 15 mnths. old when I bought her.The guy told me he didn't think she was gonna amount to nothin' when I bought her. So,I began huntin' her with my male dog about 4 nights a week.At first, she didn't do much at all. After about a month of huntin her hard with my male, she began openin' up on track a little.A month later she was runnin' track and would be at the tree with my male barkin' ever breath.Wasn't long after that, she was splittin' from him, holdin' her tree and havin' the meat.I wish I still had her.She was prolly the best hound I ever owned.

Close to 95 here. At least we got a little bit of rain

Man 95 would be a cold front for us. We have been 105+ for the past 2 weeks without a drop of rain. The lows for the nights have been 87+

There is a hunt about 10 miles up the road from my house. I have a 14 month old pup I was gonna take but I dont wanna chance blowing her up in this heat.

The price of cows is already starting to dip. Texas has had the owrst drought in its history and are selling out a bunch of feed lots wich in turn is gonna flood the market And now with this weather in the east the market will flood even more. If you ever wanted to get into the cattle buisness now would be the time to buy if you can feed em. Dry as it is around here I dont know of a dog could smell anything unless its in the creek bed. LOL

Seeing the" light bulb" come on, or the" switch flip", is why I fool with young dogs.I have seen dogs go to the woods and not have a clue, and by the end of the night, be coon treeers,I can't explain it, but it happens! It is breeding, and laying a good foundation as a trainer, and there is no better feeling when this happens, then the fun begins.I don't really like a dog as much if it takes them forever to "get it".You know a dog that shows a little improvement over a long time, but I like 1 that when they start, they know a whole lot, those are the ones that excite me, and I feel should be used as breeding stock.I call it the "it " factor, they either have "it", or they don't.....

I got this story second hand never have asked Terry if it was true or not. But i was Told that Terry Daniels was going to put a Bullet in World champion Duke when he was younger cause he didn't think he was going cut the mustard. Then the switch flipped in his head and went on to be the world champion.

Had one that made his first tree at 5 months old....made second tree the same week. Then for no reason I could see went 18 months without making a sound. Was about to give up and he started back to business. Made well over a hundred trees with him last season and I'm really looking forward to next year.
