Jim be patient. I am still learning that it has features I didn't realize.

Most of the problems with them, not all, but most are user error.

Keep using it until you are very comfortable with what you can do with it.

The biggest problem with them is the antenna connection. The handheld connection is the problem. The antennas on the collars can be replaced easily. The hand held you gotta send it in so be very careful and gentle when you change out antennas.

Not sure on those

A high quality collar antenna does huge things for your range, and how quick you pick them back up!

Jim these things are so awesome when it comes to training as well. The other night I had a young dog strike a track and then locate several times in a very thick area. Then he hushed and stayed in the same area about 5 or 10 minutes. Now mind you this is a dog that when he locates he TREES. He didn't do that. Just hushed. Somethin wasn't right. I began to wonder was he in a hole or what.

Then he went on picked the track back up and treed right. Well I wondered what went on. Did it get in a brushpile? Did he just lose it and locate out of frustration (the area was logged so it was thick with treetops everywhere).

I went to where he was at and found the answer. He killed a possum and had wolled it for a little, then went on and treed a coon.

I still don't know if he ran the possum, killed it then struck a coon or if he just stumbled across it while running the coon. I think he just tracked it up, don't see him stoppin long enough to kill it if he was already on a coon.

Bottom line is he THOUGHT he got away with it. With the old beep beep he would have gotten away with it and I would have never known it.

Now I know and knowing is the majority of the battle and it means that I have some trainin to do. Can't fix something you don't know about. Thanks to the Garmin I can hopefully nip it in the bud as Barney would say.
