Is UKC selling our emails?

I just got an email from the magazine "Dog World" It was an offer for UKC members. I have never subscribed to any magazines where they could have gotten my email. I don't know how they got it, or how they knew I had anything to do with UKC. If this is true I DO NOT APPRECIATE IT and will take my dog registration business elsewhere.

Where you going to take your registration Business? UKC is the only one that keeps a decent pedigree on a dog.

I don't think it was UKC

I think their server may have been compromised. I received the same thing. One came to my hotmail account, which I am registered to and another one came to my work station which I respond on at times, but that is not what I am registered to. Sounds kind of phishy to me.

many sites track your online behavior and sell that data to advertisers. if your internet browser isn't set right you will get a lot of spam emails that are brought up... for a long time if i would search a certain topic or site, sure enough my email account (hotmail) would be littered with spam on that topic.

But, I posted above that I got an email on my computer at work and that is not what I registered, only have responded to posts. So, the IPs have been hacked into.

Tim, I'd be willing to bet the farm that UKC's server and IP was not hacked and the reason why the email with UKC special offer for Dog World.

Look in the right corner at the top of the forum............what does the Dog World banner say? May have to hit REFRESH on your browser as sometimes the banner is UKC LOGOWEAR.

Seems to me that it is believable that since UKC advertises a special rate for Dog World magazine as it is now, that they shared their mailing list with Dog World to offer it's member a special offer.

I have a subscription to Dog World! Great Magazine! This month they have a Shed Hunting Article, but I disagree with how it said you could make lots of money doing it.... And they also had Premier coverage.

As part of our partnership with Dog World, we did supply them with e-mail addresses. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused any of you. If you would prefer not to receive future e-mails from Dog World, please e-mail me directly at traab@ukcdogs.com and I'll make sure that yours is not included in any future promotions.

Thank you for your continued support of United Kennel Club and its coonhound program.

cbcoonskinner, the banner has been on the site a good while now........I used it order Dog World at good rate.

Bow Tie Inc. and UKC has been partners since 2008.

BowTie Inc. and United Kennel Club partner in ’08
promoting active dogs & active owners

Kalamazoo, Michigan October 18, 2007 – United Kennel Club, Inc. and BowTie, Inc., two of the most respected names in dog ownership and canine events, are teaming up to help the estimated 50 million U.S. dog owners forge ever stronger bonds with their dogs; with a focus on canine-active events and promotions to bring dogs and owners together.

In 2008, readers of BowTie’s wildly popular Dog World magazine will be treated to features, news and insights on regional and national UKC events intended to help dog owners learn new ways to stay active with their dogs.

The partnership of these long-standing entities will be beneficial to not only the general public but also to the world of UKC purebred dogs. UKC registrants and Dog World’s readership will find new opportunities that may have otherwise not been possible.

“Dog World has been an avid supporter of UKC and our events in past years and we are very excited to be entering this new phase of our partnership,” states Wayne Cavanaugh, President of United Kennel Club, Inc.

Allan Reznik, Dog World’s Editor-In-Chief and long-time dog enthusiast, stated; “A partnership between our two organizations just seems to be a perfect match. UKC’s support of the ‘Total Dog’ philosophy, through their events and programs, goes hand-in-hand with Dog World’s focus on ‘Active Dogs and Active People.’ We’re looking forward to doing some great things to help people be active with their dogs.”

Dog owners are encouraged to learn more about UKC by visiting http://www.ukcdogs.com; where they can find UKC events in their area, learn tips for training and care and talk with other dog owners and enthusiasts.

The current issue of Dog World magazine is on newsstands now, featuring a report to help decipher dog-food label jargon and tips to becoming a better breeder. Visit http://www.dogworldmag.com to read excerpts from this month’s issue and learn how Dog World magazine has, for the last 92 years, continued to help “Active Dogs and Active People.”
