Renting a Truck

This might be a dumb question, but...

Does anyone here have any experience in renting a pick-up truck?

This seems to be my option for getting me to and from Autumn Oaks this year. I just don't know where to begin looking into renting one. The only truck rentals I've been able to find are box trucks or U-Hauls.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!
Laura

Rent the small u haul pick up truck. Far cheaper than a car rental.
About 20 bucks a day plus 60 cents a mile.

I'm pretty sure those small trucks are for in-town use only

Enterprise

Enterprise has a fleet of Full size or small pickup trucks with 4 doors. A group of us just rented a Full size 2009 Chevy Silverado for as little at $60 a day with unlimited mileage!

We've rented a truck on 2 occasions, once to go breed to a stud and another time to attend an event and deliver some pups.
I don't think it is real cheap, but with Enterprise if you break down they'll get you another ride ASAP.
Saving the wear and tear on your own vehicle is a plus!
If you contact Enterprise, be sure the demand a pickup. The first time we asked for a 4x4 truck and ended up with a smaller SUV. We were able to get a dogbox in it but it wasn't very roomy.

Enterprise is a place I didn't think of. I see those commercials all the time. Popping up a web page for it now.
I'm on a budget, but $60 a day should fit in okay. They probably charge more for Fords. Lol
The U-haul truck is only local, otherwise you have to go with a cargo van or box truck.

Laura not sure how old you are, but the car rental places around here have a minimium age you have to be to be able to rent from -- I reckon because of insurance reasons.

That just means you have to take it back to the same store you rented it from.

Enterprise is the way to go. If you have full coverage insurance on your personal rig you won't have to buy theirs. I rented a Chevy pickup (small) for $37.00 a day plus fuel. I am told that the U-Haul trucks do not get good fuel mileage.

Sounds identical to what we did when we took a 5 day trip to NW Iowa. It worked out great and not to mention the truck was like riding in a Cadillac compared to our '91 Chevy Pickup! lol....

We rent pickups all the time. Enterprise is great........get online to enterprise.com. There is an option to rent a pick up. You can select pick up location etc. After you make your online reservation, call them and make sure they got it and a few days before your trip, make sure you call them to see if they are getting your truck in the lot. You do have to have a major credit card to rent a pickup.

Only catch is you'll probably pay an extra fee because you aren't old enough....25 is the "adult" age for insurance...and its the "adult" age for renting a car.

Posted by Laura Bell on 06-16-2009 01:24 AM:

I never thought about an age limit. Darn. They probably wouldn't trust a 20 year old, even one with a squeaky clean record. Well, that's what parents are for. As long as I provide the rent money I should be good.
I took down the numbers to my closest Enterprise and we'll see what they tell me.

That's some good advice CypressCreek! I'll make a note of that.

Thanks for all the help everyone!! Anymore tips or anything, just post!

discounts

when renting a vehicle be sure to check for discounts as well. a lot of times you can get discounts if you are a AAA customer, NRA member, AARP, military, etc.

Laura,

The only thing I would be concerned about is if something happened while you were driving it, when you rented it in your parents name.

I'm not sure how much, or how little, or a problem that could be.

Posted by Geminite on 06-16-2009 02:48 AM:

When we rented a pickup with Enterprise, my 23 year old sister rented it in my mother's name. We didn't have any problems but if we did it would've been on our insurance...Just would be an expensive deal if you would happen to be in an accident....

So far my dad still plans to come, so he'll probably be driving it. I'm hoping we won't ding it up. Guess we'll just have to see.
Checking with a couple car dealers, someone said they rent out also.
I really Appreciate the help!
