$10,000 Judgment for Shot Dog

On February 22, 2009, Allen Gladden of Flintstone, Georgia was hunting his beloved bluetick, Gator in Walker County, Georgia, when Gator was shot and killed by Michael Melton, a resident of Walker County. Mr. Gladden filed a civil suit in Walker County Magistrate Court and also made application for criminal warrant in the same court. Michael Melton filed for a criminal warrant for tresspass against Allen Gladden.
The Court heard all actions at the same time on Friday, April 17, 2009. After hearing all of the evidence, the Court dismmissed Melton's application for a tresspass warrant, and reserved ruling on Gladden's civil case and warrant application.
I have just received the Order of the Court, and am pleased to announce that the Court found probable cause to issue a criminal warrant for the arrest of Michael Melton on charges of felony cruelty to animals, and found in favor of Plaintiff Allen Gladden with a judgment in the amount of $10,000, plus court costs, plus post-judgment interest. A GOOD DAY IN COURT FOR ALL COONHUNTERS IN THE STATE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats to Mr Gladden.

Its a shame a hound had to die for this to happen but hopefully it will help others in the future and lead to fewer hounds being killed.

THAT IS GREAT NEWS!

I HOPE MORE LANDOWNERS REALIZE THAT THEY DONT OWN THE WORLD, AND EVEN IF THEY DO OWN LAND, THEY STILL CANNOT BREAK THE LAW AND GET AWAY WITH IT!

Ditto, great to hear about the court case. So sorry for this guy's hound ....

Hope this sets a precedent and encourages others to go the way of the law when it comes to our hounds getting injured, shot or killed!

DITTO ON THE COURT CASE INFO

virginia has seen a rash of shootings this past hunting season, not so much coonhounds but other hounds and its time it stops.
this is an important case ruling that could set presidence for other states.

Good deal J.

It will be one year ago may 12th I had to super nice young dogs one was 16 months old and one was 19 months old(had 2 1st places and was qualified for the ukc world hunt,in only 3 hunts) shot and killed by a land owner. This land owner shot my dogs, drug them into his barn and covered them with hay. My dad and I had 3 collars on both of them so we knew where they were. I live in monroe county oh and they did absolutely nothing to this man. My dad and I had to pay fines of 82$ apiece for trespassing on his ground to get our dogs that he had shot. Tell me thats not messed up. We have filed a civil suit, but have had a hard time getting a lawyer that even wants to mess with it. We have been told what we win,we will only get enough to pay the lawyer. We are going on with it anyways as long as the man that shot the dogs has to pay something out of his pocket for doing this to our dogs I will be satisfied. If there were just no laws hed be taken care of. Im glad to hear that this case was won and congratulate the people that filed the civil suit and the lawyer that represented them. Way to stand up for what is right and what is not right. Common sense I think, just wish judges would see it that way.

That's awesome. I wonder if this lawyer does divorces too? He sounds like the kinda guy that can get me just what I need in a settlement! lmao!
