Most coons in 1 tree.
Just curious what's the most coons treed in 1 tree. Friday I night I treed a 1 litter of kittens that had 4 in one bushy tree and treed 2 more trees with 3 on them which is not unusual this time of year.
Last night I cut her loose and she got treed outside the woods in a fence row and when I was headed to her and my light hit the tree, it was like a Christmas tree. There were at least 9 coons up this walnut tree and maybe more than that. I believe it was 2 litters of kittens in the same tree. How neat, only wish my kids would have been along to see that sight !

Jackpot of Coons..
Last Fall Me and my two hounds treed 8 coon in one tree on the westend of a corn field.. all adults.. shot them out.. Sent the hounds out again.. treed 8 coons on the eastend of the field.. There were 2 little ones in that group.. so I left them for seed for this year.. lol.. It sure was fun to see them all in the tree.. They got a little nervous when I started shooting them out.. even had 2 of them climb down out of the tree.. Silly things.. both hounds were under the tree.. chopping.. They didnt make it once they hit the ground.. That was a fun night.. out 2 hours and had 14 big coon!.. The best part about the whole hunt... My Dad came with that night.. Made it about perfect!!

Don' t mean to be rude.....
Don't mean to be rude BUT what were you thinkin? You took 14 coons out of 1 piece of timber on 1 night?
I guess it's a personal choice, but I never harvest more than 1 per tree during open season and many times don't even harvest that 1. Dog's can't count and taking more than 1 does the dogs no good. Yes, I know the argument about all the coons in MN, we have a fair amount here also.
I guess I like to make SURE that there will always be coon in the spots I hunt because you never know when the coon you leave might TURN ON that nice young dog you've always dreamed about!
A wise old hunter once told me "Every coon you kill is one you will NEVER run again !"

The most I've ever had was three good sized coon in one tree. This spring before the leaves came on my dogs took off down a fence line and had three........left them all up and headed to another bush. Wish they could do that more often!

No offense taken.. I was called by the farmer to go out there and take care of the problem. The coon were really thick in that corn field. He was planning on just shooting them and letting them lay. SO this way i figure they didnt go to waste. There are as many coon still there as what I took maybe more. There was no shortage in that area. Id rather thin some of the coon out rather then have them get Distemper or Rabies and loose all of them. I see your point. but when the farmer calls and they are over running the field .. you do what you think is best and try to make the farmer happy too.. I have left plenty of coon in the trees too. There is no season in MN... it is continueous... I dont shoot any coon before Oct. 23 or after Jan. 15th... I will not waste a hide.

this is the most i've ever seen. i don't have a hard time believing there could be that many coon in one tree but it is kinda hard to believe that a blue dog could have done it.(LOL...)

Walker Math
By my calculations using Walker Math I should have gotten +1225 points for that tree.
1st strike = 100+
1st tree +125 per coon = 1125+
----------------------------------------
Total for tree = 1225+
Isn't that how it works Tank??? LMAO !

Twelve
A friend of mine named Roger Melson & I went hunting one night in a large Pecan grove along Little Deep Fork River southwest of Beggs, Ok. We treed 12 coon in one tree, 7 in another, 2 in another, 2 in another, & 1 in another. Twenty four coon treed & seen, & back to the truck in less than 3 hrs. Yes Oklahoma, does have coon, coonhounds, & coonhunters there. Ed have you & Butch ever done that good over around Moody & Scraper? BOOMER SOONER !!!!!!
John Wittenborn,
nope, you get the ole cigar stub as for as the state of Oklahoma goes. I did get tagged by a game warden N. E of Tulsa though. Most coons I ever seen was 16 in one tree, a mulberry in east central Illinois at 2. 30 in the afternoon.
Did you ever hear of an old boy by the name of Steve Owens from Miami?

Ed, that's MY-AM-A
Steve Owens was Heisman Trophy material, I was lucky to be Little All- American. I think he's just behind Barry Switzer as for as the "head hound of the kennel" goes in Oklahoma. He came into the N.F.L. two years after I retired, my last year to play was 68.
Mulberry trees don't count in this contest, just Pecan trees, & around corn fields. You & ole Butch take good care of those Boners. I think I'm going to bed so I can get up early & try to get a sick one treed about daylight. Talk at ya later, John. BOOMER SOONER
John,
Couldn't get ole Steve to go coonhuntin but did do some quail huntin out by Woodward with him. That dude's a purty good shot. Mixed a little with some of the Burris Boys an met Tinker down in Muskogee. ALL you guys are my heros. Goin back to when Bud Wilkinson coached. I remember OU scoring three touchdowns agin Texas in 40 some seconds. Tommy McDonald, was'nt he agoodin, man, it just goes on an on.
We need to get together an talk!- - - - - - - BOOMER SOONERS - -
