Preliminary Zone Numbers

We could still get an entry or two with a good postmark but these numbers will be pretty close.

Zone 1 - IL - 93 dogs - advancing 15

Zone 2 - IN - 220 dogs - advancing 34

Zone 3 - PA - 58 dogs - advancing 9

Zone 4 - AR - 55 dogs - advancing 9

Zone 5 - NC - 133 dogs - advancing 21

Zone 6 - AL - 66 dogs - advancing 11

Zone 7 - TX - 28 dogs - advancing 5

Zone 8 - MT - 8 dogs - advancing 3

Total as of 9/7 - 661 dogs

Todd how do you come up with the numbers allowed to advance.
It does not seem like there is a consistancy in the %.
Just wondering.

You just take the percentage of dogs entered from each zone and round up to the next whole number.

8 divided by 661 does not round to 3, or even 2, where I come from.

Except they'd have to be willing to give up Oaks weekend!

And what percentage is that? It's not consistent.

Maybe it's the "bonus" for the extreme amount of time off and mileage required to get to RQEs and then to the Zone in the western states.

Try this Only way I could get it to come out

Zone 1 : 93 dogs in zone divided by 661 total entry equals .1406 dogs
advancing 15

Zone 2 : 220 dogs in zone divided by 661 total entry equals .3328 dogs
Rounded to 34 advancing

ETC.

I'm kinda curious too. We figured one dog and hoped for two but three just doesn't make sense. I've heard some talk about what happened and would like to think it's not true. Todd, could you tell me exactly why there are three dogs from Zone 8 going? It's great that U.K.C. gave us a zone out here so we don't have to lose three weeks of wages to participate in the World hunt and I thank U.K.C. for that oppritunity. I don't like the fact that someone can bully there way into the World hunt (this is hearsay) and turn our zone into a laughing stock. A lot of guys have put more than their share of time and effort into this zone. I can see by the comments of some on here that they are not happy and I can't say that I blame them. On the other hand don't take it out on the Montana guys as we had nothing to do with it nor did we know anything about it. What a lot of the population is lacking is a set of morals and the spine to support them. I'm no math wizz but something's wrong with your figures. Eight dogs divided by 661 equals .0121, that would make two dogs by your calculations, am I right? 1st place with +762.5 - Gr.Nt.Ch. Gr.Ch. 'PR' Bates' Bawlin Boomer and 2nd place with +525 Strawberry Mtn. Sadie. Please explain to the West in front of God and everybody here why there are three dogs going. And I don't believe the "bonus" dog because we drive far and all that. Where I come from we work hard for what we have and take pride in that fact. I don't expect something for nothing. I ask that you don't turn our zone into a joke because we work as hard as anyone else does to make it a viable event. I am eager to hear your response. Kevin Jackson

No bullying whatsoever. Everyone was very sportsmanlike in dealing with a situation where UKC made an honest mistake in regards to entries. We determined that the fairest way to deal with the situation was to send the three dogs involved as opposed to the two dogs that we would have typically sent.

We do appreciate the support of the western houndsmen and thank everyone for their understanding in this matter.

That's funny, entries were taken the same as they always have been. Maybe we should give the third place dogs from the past years a free trip this year to make it fair, even though they didn't earn a place in the World hunt. Or you could have just sent two dogs per the percentage breakdown and made it fair for everyone. I'm not trying to start problems as there is already a big problem with this situation. I don't believe it's fair to myself or anyone else that competes in U.K.C. hunts to allow a dog in that didn't rightly earn the trip to the World. Respectfully - Kevin Jackson
