Hounds that look like hounds

Who on here still has hounds that look like hounds. I'm not talking about gaskons, but blueticks that still have long ears, wide square muzzles, wide headed, broad chested hounds and of larger size. Through the years these traits have been bred out of the bluetick breed. Breeders before us thought a smaller, narrow nosed, short eared model was better suited for comp hunting. Where have our nice looking hounds went? Who has hounds that look like hounds. Lets see some pictures and info on what the dog is out of.

Don't know if you would consider this one to be what you like but I love her looks and they way she's built.

Nice looking female. When making crosses with my male here we have pups with similar features as yours. He has been crossed on coon dogs, but am looking for the looks that I desire. I would like to make a cross on a coon dog that also has houndy looks as well. He has Mad Dog going back to Spanky and Hazel Hill Hill On top. His bottom side has Spanky and more heavy Hazel Hill Line breeding. The litter he came out of did not produce others that were as houndy, but they all made coon dogs.

Travis is that your Coon Dog that has the coon a high % of the time? It looks like he is put together good. Do you have any day time pictures? Also what does his ped look like?

Blue Bawlin nice looking hound... What does your dogs ped look like?

Mine weighs right at 90 lbs and does not stradle tracks. He leaves on the run and tracks and runs to catch. A lot of times people think big dogs are slow, but he is not. He is the most accurate dog I have owned and is not a tree checker. When he locates, he's treed and load the gun. He has the coon a high % of the time.

His sire is out of Perry Ross's Dealer dog. His dam is out of Sanberg's Bock. He's got Northern Blue Levi, Spanky, Rambo and Rambo II in him

Gascons are also UKC Blueticks. I think of them as an old line of Blueticks. Our hounds have to meet a physical standard to be reg gascons and can be PA'ed for hunting ability. Most of us are pleasure hunters and love to hunt these big, bawl mouthed cold nosed hard hunting hounds.

What Bock cross do you have in her pedigree? Ive got a Bock x Sheltons Star female I like a lot. Nite champ with 3 wins.

Bruce I'm not taking anything away from the Gaskons. I do know they are UKC registered as Blueticks. They are few and far between. I would like to have a pup from the pure line of Gaskon hounds. That is the issue the gaskons are bred by very few people and most won't breed out of the gaskon blood line. I do know of a breeder in South Dakota that made a gaskon / Jet line cross. My Son has a pup out of a gaskon / standard bluetick cross that I like the looks of. Time will tell if she makes it here as a coon dog. Feel free to post pics and pedigrees.

Also gaskons and blueticks could be two seperate breeds based on where they originated from.

Nice looking hounds Eddie! Do you have females that are houndy also? Or when crossed on females that are not as houndy looking do you get the looks in the off springs. I have yet to have mine reproduce a carbon copy. I get the larger size, but they have a narrow muzzle and are not what I desire for looks, but most have made coon dogs so far.

No sorry I don't have any pics of him in the daylight I will get around and take some one day he just likes to go huntin he isn't like these 90lb dogs he is a little guy only about 55lbs and a ball of fire

this is all 5 pups out of that litter

pic 4 and 5 are both females

these are 2 from a different gyp same sire. both of these are gy
ps as well

I wish I had some pics of the other pups out of another gyp Larry breed too. they are pretty uniform so far. we have had some out of one heavy vinning bullet breed gyp that were lighter colored, but had a good build and big ears.
