-- Beautiful Morning. (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=928508208)
Beautiful Morning.
This day is sure starting off in a very good way. Got up and went to the woods with two good friends. Corey Davis and Kevin Perry. Put our dogs out and they made it look easy for once. They struck a good track and after a short run put Mr. Coon up a tree. They were several hundred yards from us but we managed to drive the Polaris Ranger to within about 30 yards. Beautiful morning, good Friends and some nice dog work from a couple young hounds. After some discussion we were smart enough to call it a day and avoided "The One More Turnout" that usually doesn't end well. Please don't feel I am saying these dogs are good. I am just Thankful and at Peace with my life that I can find Joy in what I do. If the tree would have been slick or we had to walk a half mile. It would have still been a wonderful morning in the woods. The just being there and the Fellowship with Corey and Kevin means a lot more than any accomplishments.

.
Tar people can say a lot about older people. But one thing we have is a lot of memories with Friends and Family in the woods. I know while the youngsters want to get to the tree and get the coon. I just want to get to the tree. Then smile about the hunt on the way home. Coon Hunting has brought me a lot more pleasant memories of Friends and Family than it has good dogs. Love hearing about your memories with your Son and Family.

I am guilty as charged of holding on to old memories lol. The younger ones just don't slow down long enough to see them. Here is anouther one I spent most of the day the other day picking wild grapes in the rain Mrs tar made jelly Corey walked in that night and said Sombody made grape jelly I smell it I gave him a jar ( got to ration him and Ralph or they will eat it all ) next day he said his grandpa ate 1/2 that jar and he said he ate the other half a jar of jelly makes people happy Bruce or was it the love put into making it ?

Your post is a prime example of why we hunt, it's all about the memories that last a life time. Thanks for sharing. Dave

Vic I always been the type of guy that had fun at anything I did just the simple things I never been rich so I just learned to make do with what I had like now I have pre owned dogs an eBay light ,2007 Toyota pickup with 200,000 miles my boat is a 1973 model but the motor is 3 yrs old but it's all paid for and accomplishes the same things as people's fancy stuff. And I live in a house in town that's older than me lol.

Tar thanks for not bragging on your success story for us. A man is just as rich as he is happy. I can relate to you. My ambition as a boy was to have the best dog and horse I could have and live where I could enjoy them. I passed up a free education for this but I had horse friends, dog friends and fishing buddies and a bunch of just plain old party buddies. Have to live tight now but if I die tomorrow all I can say is I've been a rich man in my own way and I've had a ball. It"s whatever makes you happy.
.
Tar if I took you wrong which I have seen your references of FANCY on here many times and don't think I did. I will be the first to apologize.

Hunts
I would just like to say that sharing our hunting experiences/memories is something that bonds each of us to the other. Life is full of blessings, but we often stress the negatives! I have witnessed people that were very poor, when considering material things, express such happiness with life that I envied them. Happiness is not about material things, it's about attitude. Life has blessed me and I have just about anything that a man could want, but some of my most precious memories are related to coondog and coonhunting with friends of all social/economical backgrounds. My thanks are to GOD and all those people that share in our sport of coonhunting, where a friend is just a stranger you haven't met yet. Happy hunting to all. Dave

This mornings hunt
I got up at 0100 made coffee went to load the dogs , My old dogs Curly who turned 8 in June and Mabel who will be 8 this coming January were really begging to go. They had not been in about 3 months. So I just loaded them. Arrived at the hunting spot turned loose about 10 minute later Curly stuck with his hard chop , a few minutes later Mabel chimed in with her long crying bawl , they were working this pretty cold track down a creek crossing it several times one or the other would open once or twice sometimes together every minute or two they were moving North and when they got half way through the section I drove around, Parked they were getting close about a 1/4 mile away. It went silent for a few minutes , Then Mabels long dying bawl locate rolling over to short bawls , followed by Curlys three short bawl locate rolling into a never ending , 40 -50 bpm chop. I just sat there sipping coffee and listening to these faithful old dogs thinking about friends long gone and hunts with other old dogs from the past. Wondering if Mabels CRYING almost pleading bawls were similar to the Sirens that Greek sailors heard long. And Curlys hard chop the beating of the Walking Drum described in Louis Lamours book. Anyway got to them Mabel came to meet and greet me dancing on her hind legs like a Ballerina , Curly just sat there letting the world know he had him. Big Hackberry tree on the edge of the field there he sat about 3/4 way up in a fork. Petted the dogs real good told em dead coon and heel went back to the truck. It was only 0230 this track took them 45 minutes from start to finish. Turned loose 4 more times treed five more coon seen them all pretty good average for a morning hunt with the leaves on. 50/50 is a good % for summertime anyway. The other tracks were quick , short , hot and exiting as well. But I will take tracks like the first one any day they are the ones I really enjoy. Pat and I are going to go in a few, we are taking Curly and Mabels 4 daughters we jokingly call the hookers. God bless and good hunting to all.
