Looking for Several.....

The UKC Youth Nationals is coming up this weekend, July 14, and 15th. As most know, youth events are not money-makers for anyone involved and most all contributors do so on a volunteer basis. And we greatly appreciate everyone's time and contribution. There are few better causes to contribute to than to the future of the sport.

Unfortunately, it seems to get more and more difficult to get enough volunteers to help judge the nite hunts. Of course, we never know how many judges we'll end up needing so it's always better to have too many opposed to not enough. At this time we are still looking for a few able judges that would be willing to come help out on Friday and Saturday nights.

If you are able to come over to Celina and help out please let me know and we'll add you to the list of judges. You can leave a message here, or pm or email me at agingerich@ukcdogs.com.

If you are already on the host club's list, we thank you and no need to contact us here.

The deadline for the hunt each night is 7:00 pm EST.

It seems like everyday we talk about the difficulty of getting young people into our sport. They are coming to this event but UKC needs some help judging them in the woods. It would be real nice for the guys in that area to show up in full force ready to support these kids. They need our help lets not let them down.

Thank you Mike. Appreciate all those able and willing to give their time for the kids.

I guess Im just really surprised this would be an issue. The one thing that everyone in this sport seems to agree on is that it will end soon if our youth do not continue on with our sport. That calls for stepping up and supporting them when the opportunity arises.
The last time I ever judged a cast was a Youth Qualifier cast and I guided quite a few also over the years. If you enjoy seeing a good dog go, this is your chance. Some of the best dogs in the country are being hunted in these Youth Hunts. And a thank you to all who pitch in.

Every man and woman that cares about our sport within a 100 miles of that area should be lining up to help. We did this hunt down here at Seneca last year and I can honestly say we all enjoyed it more than any hunt we've put on and all our guys helping guide, judge or both had a blast. If you are a Coonhunter and live any where near where Nationals is at get on your phone and send out a text that they need help this weekend and send Allen's info, if you have Facebook post it there. Help make this hunt another success for these youth hunters!

This would never happen here with UKC at Youth Nationals because it is more of a friendly vibe than the $KC Youth World. But when I running the youth hunts 15 years ago the $KC did not allow parents to go into the woods with the hunters in the actual world hunt, open events they were allowed. Although this also creates problems with needing rides for all the kids and some parents would never send their kid out with a stranger. But I always thought this was great and actually helped me a lot in the long run. You as a kid learn a lot more and I felt like concentrated on the hunt more when you didn't have parents there breathing over your shoulder. If this was to happen in the qualified Saturday night hunt this would open up qualified and willing parents to judge some casts. Again I don't know if this will happen ever, but even this weekend it would be an option to announce if some parents (especially older kids) would like to judge a cast.

Allen, I can come and judge Friday night, I wish I could both nights but have family coming in from out of state Saturday.

Very good Jeremy! We greatly appreciate your help on Friday! See you there.

youth hunt

You would think with this hunt being held in coon country finding judges for a YOUTH hunt would be simple.
It should be an honor to judge the future of our sport.
I'm leaving Friday morning for vacation or I would be there in a minute.

I would just like to say something to those that are reading this and thinking they would like to help but are apprehensive about taking on a non-hunting judge role. This is not like judging a cast of Grands at Autumn Oaks. These are kids from 5 years of age to 17. If you would rather, I'm sure Allen can set you up to judge the 5 to 12 year old division.

It's not a lot of pressure. It's just the opposite. It's about getting kids in the woods and introducing them to the sport. It is one of the most rewarding hunts I have ever worked. I think those that are on the fence about judging would be glad they did if they come out and help and be a part of this great event.

I judged several youth casts this year at the Breed Day Events. Every single one of the kids in those casts did a great job calling their dogs and conducted them in a manner that should set the example for all hunts and hunters.

X2 on what Todd and Allen said I judged both nights last year at Seneca and got more out of it probably than the kids! I had a real tough young man on my cast Saturday night who really loved coon hunting despite having some afflictions and his old blue tick treed one by himself at the very end of the hunt to win the cast.

Heck Allen bring it back to good MO/OK we will take care of you again. We absolutely loved this hunt it was a blast and the Eastern Shawnee's said anytime we need the grounds again it's ours. Maybe next time I can get them to dig out the creek a little dipper for the kids.

That turned out to be a pretty nice place for the nationals. And you all did a bang up job hosting it!

I got the place for the next one you would be surprised at the amount of judges and windstar world casino is 10 miles away has a top golf course.
