I gave $1,000 for mine one eyed and staff infected sight unseen thought I lost my mind but she is out of my old stuff she is a coondog even now and if I can just get a pair of pups out of her money well spent I sure would have liked to had her when she was 3 but I could not afford her then she has a good home here the rest of her life.

That's different you wanted it for a reason, been there done that lost 3k on a 9 yr old saw him tree a coon and 3 days later buried him

I got one better than that I gave $5,000 for a world champion with a letter from the vet saying he was fertile but I guess on the way home he went sterile lol ! But I enjoyed hunting him sure was an expensive pleasure hunting dog.

normally when they make 9 years old at my kennels, they will be here until they die. Like Jim, I wouldn't sell them, and it would probably be hard to give them away by then. we do get attached at times.

I have done this a couple of times. It is a great feeling to get letters or phone calls from these young people.

I gave my old Dolly female to 2 young men when she was 9 1/2 years old. The last time i heard from them she was 15 years old and still hunting.

Free or keep it until it is dead. You see so many say they are selling nine , ten, and even 11 year olds that still look and act four.... I highly doubt they act four..even so they are not four. They are on their last leg. Quit trying to make 1000 plus dollars on a dying dog and give it to someone who needs a pup trainer. Help a kid out. They never forget a good deed.

I have never understood how you could sell a dog you have had for nine years that gave its heart and soul to you. There should be some payback to the dog. Retire it and love it the rest of its life.

Old Rose wandered into our lives as a free dog, taught us & the pups so much. I chat with the woman who drove around the country earning all those points & titles. She's happy Rose has a good home & I'm happy she trained a wonderful hound. Old Rose is happy to be able to lay on the couch in front of the fire & keep the pups in line.
