A Real Deer Problem

How long will a young doe keep her fawn in the small woods 20 yards below my dog kennel? Driving my young dogs nuts!! She comes right out in the yard and eats grass in plan few of the 13 month old pups. The barking doesn't faze her. Have seen her for about the last 3 days

Turn the pups loose

Don't think of it as a problem, think of it as an opportunity to teach him not to like deer.

I have the same situation...I wouldn't look for her to move that fawn anytime too soon, she knows the foxes and coyotes will stay away from it being close to those dogs.

she will keep them there until she feels threatened and then move them on. LOUD BOOMS will fix the problem.

Coyote urine maybe?
Deer repellant on the grass?

you need to invite me up in November, I can help you out with those deer!

Dogs have settled down a good bit at least when I am home. The 13 month olds have only run a couple deer since they were 6 months old. I will break them this fall during the rut. Never had much problem with breaking my hounds from deer. Right now there are 3 cats I think close to a million rabbits and now the deer. Its kinda of neat to see them not be bothered by the other game in the yard. We had a yote in the yard 3 years ago about 20 yards from the kennel, I didn't let that one walk away.

that's the good side of having them living close to the dogs after they get used to them ,they treat them like livestock and don't mess with them come hunting season..our dogs just run right by them and don't give them a second look in the woods...

Where I live I have about 6 deer that live and sleep about 20 yards from my kennels. Never had a deer race in years. I've had to scold 2 younger dogs for barking at them a little bit. I also had issues with coyotes coming in and snagging my chickens about 10ft from my kennels. The dogs never even woke up. I've noticed over the years my coyote races have dwindled too. Dogs get used to seeing them everyday and learn they aren't anything exciting, just like the barn cats and chickens.
