unemployment

Lets start a new post. Does the 8% unemployment rate include the people who get all kinds of government assistance and dont need to work or jus people lookin for a job?

It only reflects the ones drawing now, if you include the people who's benefits have run out that cant find work it jumps to over 12%. The number of people receiving some kind of Govt. assistance is pushing 50% and climbing every day.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics also calculates six alternate measures of unemployment, U1 through U6, that measure different aspects of unemployment:[39]
U1:[40] Percentage of labor force unemployed 15 weeks or longer.
U2: Percentage of labor force who lost jobs or completed temporary work.
U3: Official unemployment rate per the ILO definition occurs when people are without jobs and they have actively looked for work within the past four weeks.[1]
U4: U3 + "discouraged workers", or those who have stopped looking for work because current economic conditions make them believe that no work is available for them.

We've got a couple guys at work who are begging for unemployment. Don't get it!!! The company bumped us up to 50 hrs a week and they absolutely won't work it!!! They miss a day every week so it won't mess up there welfare!!! I know those offices are flooded with work but **** looks like they could do somethin bout that. I mean hard times can fall on anybody but if they would work and quit poppin out kids they wouldnt need assistance. Jus ventin

Are you suggesting that these people are working and receiving assistance? Like they try keep their hours down so they make a minimal enough amount so as to keep their welfare benefit? But they would prefer to get laid off and collect unemployment instead?

Pretty sure that is what he is saying and I know for a fact it happens as well. I good friend of mine has a guy that does exactly what VA Bluedog is saying and I am sure it happens all over the country. It really make me and my wife scratch our heads, I mean what the heck. Hey maybe everyone should plug in, seems like those folk doing that is doing better than me, wearing nicer cloths, cars, etc, school lunches, oil assistance, cell phones, stamps, and symphathy. What gives, wish I could understand it, but don't.

wow, that is incrediable efficiency. 100% of entitlement money going to help the needy and disabled!

do a foia search and fined out how many in your community are on disability, then watch and see how many of those are out hunting, fishing, playing golf or tennis. i have two within ten miles that draw full disability but still manage to run a trap line and deer hunt all winter and fish all summer.

I would have to agree with truly here. He made the statment regarding unemployment benefits (or thats the way I read it). Most government assistance programs have an income threshold and it doesn't matter if you work or not to be eligible. That being said I would think that truly is pretty much on target with what he said.

Apparently the horse manure expert does not realize that there are folks who are working that still receive benefits/assistance of one sort or another, and there are others who are not working that do not.

SOme of the biggest users of gubt assistance IMHO are members of the wealth class. I don't know any poor or working class that get the 10's of millions of $$$ of assistance through TIF. [tax increment financing]. I don't think the billion [or trillion?] dollar bank bailout went to the poor or working class- seems like that went to the investor class....

Well i dont have anything against unemployment, welfare, or disability. IF people need it. But ever since there was a system people been tryin to beat it. Its jus too easy for people to collect a check in my opinion.

I hate to even remotely sound like a liberal but you have point concerning the bailout. Why didn't they divide that bailout money evenly between the poor and middle class. We could have then blew the money however we wanted. This in turn would have stimulated the economy. Makes sense to me.

But seriously, regarding the bailout, if we were gonna spend a few hundred billion or a trillion or however much it was, why did we give it to the banks? At the center of the mortgage meltdown issue was the fact that many Americans had gotten in over their heads and couldn't make their monthly payments. These payments were on debt that the banks had encouraged borrowers to take out and had done risk assessment on and concluded that the borrowers were good for the money. So now the borrowers and lenders had been proven wrong- borrowers were not good for the money that both parties had agreed that they were good for. So if both parties had erred in judgement why not have a solution that solves both parties problem? By the bailout only going to banks it did not solve any of the homeowners problems. If the bailout had gone to pay all interest on home loans for ONE year borrowers would have been incentivized to pay down as much principal as they could. Remember that most monthly mortgage payments are 90% interest! For one year those who had very little cash on hand could have at least met their principal obligation and those who were doing better could have paid down large amounts of their debt by making the same payment with 100% of it going to principal reduction.And those who had no debt would have had their home value protected by the fact that the entire real estate market was not collapsing. And in the meantime the banks would have benefitted by having fewer folks go into default. EVERYONE would have benefited instead of just the banks.

you mean the bush stimulas that didnt work either bottom line is it shouldnt have been a bailout at all the banks made the decision to take the risk they should have taken the fall same as the car comp. thats how a real free market works now we have a govt. owned banking system and car comp. the only peaple that benifited from that was the fed govt dem. and rep. they are all crooks
anybody notice a change in there paycheck lately that is if your still fortunate to be getiing one barak i wont raise taxes on anyone makeing under 250000 wont see a raise in there taxes oboma is takeing his fair share oh but wait that was those rich poor peaple hateing rep.that keep saying they dont want to raise anybodys taxes that did that theres your hope and change all two cents of it
