Dog getting sick in box
A friend of mine recently bought a 3 year old dog. Every time you haul him he gets real sick in the box. When you get it out to hunt he is still sick and takes awhile for it to get his legs under him. Once he gets over it he will go hunting. I don't know how much he has been hauled but he does this everytime and he has had him a couple of weeks now. The thing about it is he is a real good coondog once he is out of the box for a while. I was just wondering if anyone else has had a dog like this.

Ive had pups get sick a few times till they got used to riding, but never had 1 that didnt get over it. However I have heard before that some dont ever get over it. Some dogs due suffer from motion sickness thier whole lives from what Ive been told. Probally the reason the seller of the dog sold him. Maybe the vet can give him something for it. I dont know.

Does the box have plenty of ventalation if he isnt getting enough air they will act the same way they will drool and stumble around for a few min and then be fine
does the medicine make them drowsy acting or anything? i had never heard of that, i have a buddy with a dog doing the same thing and i will tell him about this.

what about try feeding him in the dog box while the truck is sitting still, do this every day for a while and see if he gets to where he likes the box more. i think i saw that in a walk with wick book. i used to tie mine out in the back...i had a chain running across the bed up by the cab i would snap them to. be careful though and make sure they cant jump out! my buddy who has the sick dog problem lost 2 dogs from jumping out like that before he finally bought a box. poor guy cant win... if he tied em in the back, they jump out and he runs over them, now he has a box and his dog wont quit puking in it

i agree! he ran over 2 dogs, then his other buddy let him borrow his young walker dog to take hunting and the dog came in after a few minutes and his guts were hanging out. i guess he got snagged by a fence or something. the dog had just started cranking too. he has the sick dog now but i think i would have thrown in the towel!

only thing that rips guts here in florida is hogs went out 4 weeks ago with my buddy on his airboat hog hunting and he sent out his four dogs dogo argentinos on this massive boar hog and they got him but one dog was split wide open the hog dressed out at 373 lbs imagine with the guts in it prolly 450 500 they are nasty lil critters

I picked my dog up when he was 3 months old. I rode 3 hours in a car and he did just fine. Got him in my truck, which is solid front axle and bouncy as all get out... he threw up ALOT! He did get better about it. Now he is 4 years old and doesn't throw up but he drools like a 13 year old boy looking at his first nudie mag!

You can buy NON drowsy dramamine...
I had a young dog that would get sick in the box or truck.. He loved to go but I could see him getting anxious before we even loaded up.. And then once he was sick he would relax and be just fine..
I've given it once while riding up front with me and once when I loaded him in the dogbox... Both times I gave it about 40 minutes before we went for a ride.. I haven't had to give it to him since.. He doesn't get anxious anymore when we are getting ready to load either..
I guess he had to learn he could relax before we started moving..

You've only got 3 choices in life, give in, give up, or give it all you got.
Yes, use the non-drowzy dramamine. You can get it at Wal-Mart, even in the generic.
I had a pair of littermate sisters that would get sick, drool, and even lay with their heads in a corner. Used dramamine about four or five times. They got better each time. Finally rode with their heads up, and no more getting sick in the box.
I think the motion sickness really made them nervious to the point of being scared to ride.

i had one that it didnt matter if vehicle was moving or not, would still drool. depending on the dog, have use the motion sickness (equate brand) and also Homeopet makes a travel anxiety liquid drop that works really well. just have to be consistent w/ it in its use. all of mine have outgrown it.
