female hunting different after heat cycle
What do yall do to get a female to hunt like she did before her heat cycle?
Before the cycle she hunted deep with no problem. Now she acts like she never has been out. Just get around 50 yards and checks trees or stands at my feet.
dog
i had a female walker pup that was doing good she had her fist heat cycle and was nothing but a blooming idot after that i gave her away to a buddy of mines brother he thought he could make something out of her never did dont no what he did with her may get over it may not good luck
I HAVE ONE THAT DID MUCH BETTER AFTER HER CYCLE. I WAS READY TO GIVE UP ON HER BEFORE THAT.

I've seen some females that act / hunt differently after a cycle, sometimes get back on track after the next cycle.
I'd have her thyroid checked. I'd also have her tested for lymes and erlichea.
Try hunting her with another dog that hunts out. Maybe she bounce back once you get her in there deep ??
I know mine was a bit funky after she came out heat but after few nites she settled back into her old seld

Weird acting after Heat Cycle!
My old female will act goofy when she comes out of heat. She's an 8 year old NITECH, PKC CH, who's a solid finished hound, but when she comes out of heat bring the Camera because she's gonna have her clown suit on. I just bite my lip and shake my head the first night or two then she goes back to her normal self.

Mine did the same thing after she had pups. took about 4 months for her to get her head straight. Glad she came around cause she was pole cat crazy for awhile.
LOL this reminds me of one of my old females that i dearly loved. She's gone now but she was a one of a kind.
She was the smartest huntin dog I ever seen, minded better than alot of peoples kids.
She had several quirks, she would hike her leg and mark when the males would do it, she showed them she could do it too. One of the funniest things you ever seen.
But one of the things I hated about her is that you could tell when she was coming in heat cause she would start treein possums. I mean she treed three in a row one night even though we had a prayer meetin about it. She knew better, never treed them any other time and would let other dogs tree them all night and go tree coons, but when she got within about a week of comin in heat it was like she couldn't help herself. She did this consistantly too, it's not like it was one time. Once she got about 2 years old she would consistantly start treein possums right before she came in heat. Darndest thing I ever seen and there was nothin I could ever do about it either LOL.
She was good enough the other 50 weeks of the year that it didn't bother me too bad, matter of fact it kept me on my toes about it and I never was suprised to find her in heat.

I've seen gyps that didn't have hormone issues and hunted normal ... but the gyp I have now is not one of them.
She is definitely "off" her game a little .. nothing serious , but you can tell she must have puppies on the brain or something and can't wait to be a mommy .... or at least that's what I tell myself to keep my blood pressure from blowing.

My NTCH female is always an idiot right before she comes into heat. Won't hunt as deep, will pull off trees, and every now and then will put up a slick tail...just basically becomes the opposite of her normal hunting style. First time it happened I nearly had a stroke because I hadn't had her very long LOL! At least now I know what to expect, and that she'll be back to normal a week or so after she comes out...

My female did the same thing. But she stayed in for 34 days. After that she hasnt been worth a crap for anything. So i finally had to give her away to the local deer hunters..
Well my old female seemed to be a little faster just before she came into heat and back to normal when she went out.
This one just acts like she has no clue on what to do. When she is first turned loose, she will run wide open up and down the road for a couple minutes. Then she stays close after that. I reckon that will teach me not to complain, she was busting through the woods for about 600 yards before she started hunting. I know she had to pass up some coons.
I hunt her alone 95% of the time, I reckon I will go with others a few nights.
I started back hunting her 4 weeks after she first came in. Is that too soon? It was fine for my last female.
Sometimes they fall into a False Pregnancy Cycle .. Sleeping alot, lack of Drive, Eating ALOT .. Just a Pain in the Butt !!!
I just had one Go out of It and also have one in Mid Cycle of a False Pregnancy Cycle ..
What makes matters worse is I have a Female thats readyto drop pups any min. now .. So the one that THINKS she's pregnent is Getting Full of Milk !!
Which she could be a blessing if I need a Wet Nurse to help with the Litter..

My female just went to acting dumb as crap leaving trees got agressive towards other dogs and even growled at me a few times. It was odd enough for her to stay in that long and then she turns into a complete idiot
Yep, 2 females and they both lose their minds before, during and after a heat cycle. They are mother and daughter and both act the same, makes me want to scream!
I have been through the not wanting to hunt deal, playing with trash (grinners and skunks), the 'Oh, I'm leaving the tree' deal, they stand on head whistle Dixie move, you name it, they have done it.

Give her TIME. Some females don't act right after their cycle sometimes, and it may last a couple of months. But, after their hormones settle back down, they should be back right. I would be hunting her often during that time because being laid up while they're in heat, then a while after that (because they aren't doing right) will set them back even further.
