You're breeding the dog not the owner. Just pay the fee, you don't even need to talk to the guy. Keep it professional and it doesn't matter how big of an A-hole he is.

If a dog was putting something in his pups that I needed, Id send my buddy with her to get her bred, If I need something ill get it regardless, Dont let anything stand in the way of getting what you need.

if he can't be a sportsman in everything he does with the dog, i don't anything to do with him. I will not allow him to use pups off my female, to promote his fine stud dog. YES, once you breed to him, you will be used and associated with the a--h--e. If you have a pup turn-out great, guess what will be in the add promoting the stud? You guessed it. Your name as a reference in the Bloodlines and others. There are plenty of great owners out there with great dogs. I don't need to help a not so great one.

Well I guess if you want to get it and it's worth that much you would have to grin and bear it -- but yes I can think of one or two I wouldn't breed to their dog for love or money.

as a stud dog owner what made him a jerk?

folks call all the time 12-15 calls a week 10 are for puppies the names are written down in a book and when puppies are on the ground and the owner and I talk from time to time...if he wants to sell extras after friends and his own doings than we go out of our way to help put them out there.

how could someone be a jerk for that, or did you get burned by him first. than he bought the stud dog.

I'm in it for the DNA, really there is no money to be seen to stud dog owners, call and ask one , heck call em all and ask how they are doin. 700$ year to pkc 100$ ukc 2500$-3000$ to advertising in bloodlines and cooner and not every month! 10,000$ for a Good Stud dog in 3 years youve given the clubs 2400$ for sire programs minimal programs...

2,400$ 3 years worth of sire programs
9,000$ advertising in 3 years
10,000$ Stud dog
-----------------
21,400$ with no feed, no gas, no trips to the vet, no phone bill

say 22,000$ divide that by 400$ ==55 breedings to break even

shouldnt you get 5-10% return on 22,000$ in three years, heck prolly each year for 3 years.

When was the last time someone gave 22,000$ to better the breed?

I'm not mad just askin'
Really what have I done? no return for me until he is dead and gone and the kids enjoy good hunting stock and never have to shop or get yanked around for it.

Rube bred 16 females in Georgia the whole time he was there for a year.

really when was the last time yaw gave 22,000$ to better the breed and offer that money to everyone else... to have something you loved and thought that much of?

I'd avoid buying a pup from anyone that breeds based on WHO they like and don't like. They don't have performance, FIRST.

I will bend over backwards to get along with someone enough to breed to their dog. Having said that, they will have to be basically honest and make some effort to get along with me so we can get it done.

I will not cut my nose off to spite my face. If you got I need and you will let me I'll do it. If he/she uses my dog to promote his dog oh well that don't make me a butt hole it makes my decision a sucess. You ask me people think to much instead of doing!!

I would breed to it if it was reproducing what I liked and needed. You are you are breeding to the dog and getting what it reproduces, you are not breeding to the owner and getting what he/she produces.Kind of stupid to not breed to a stud dog that will help improve your line/breed just because you don't like the owner.

Agreed.

One thing that hurt the black and tan breed for so many years (and still does to some extent) is the cliques and people not breeding for performance, but breeding based on who the owner was, or who made them mad 15 years ago.

Great advise........If you never dealt with one of those you would limet yourself greatly on who you could deal with. Besides people change and some times for the better.

I wouldn't care ... if I wanted to breed the do , we could go out in the yard and throw down for all I care ...

... nothing funnier to me than folks that say they're the nice ones , but only to folks they like ...

.. Rip , it is definitely still hurting us ...

Posted by Adam Whitehead on 05-11-2010 06:13 PM:

Remember this....opinions are like those certain type of "holes" you described this guy being....It may very well just be your opinion of this particular guy. I personally would NOT want to deal with someone who I didn't a good relationship with. You know there may just be a time when you need to communicate with this person. Just my thoughts......
